Janette’s Christmas Tree

By Janette | Decorating

Hello from California.  Mike and I have a busy travel month, and we kicked December off with a long weekend here in Los Angeles.  We flew out Saturday afternoon and will get home this afternoon.  He needed to be measured for some new cycling shoes that he gets custom made here, and I tagged along for fun.  We will have a post to tell you about our get away, but today I want to show you our Christmas tree.  Now, granted that in the blog world, our tree is probably below average, but it’s ours, and we love it.  I’m very low key when it comes to Christmas.

This year’s tree is our first faux tree other than a little table top version that we had once.  It’s a prelit seven feet tall slender tree that we bought at Lowe’s.  For some reason, it was on sale for less than half price the day I was there, and so, I grabbed it because it looks very realistic.  We just really miss the fragrance of a real tree, but as I said earlier, we will be traveling a lot this month and won’t be able to water a tree regularly.

I wanted a tree that would fit into the corner of our dining room, and this one is just right.  (By the way, that’s a wooden airplane propeller from WW I leaning against the wall behind the tree.  That’s where it lives.)  Our house is part of a progressive dinner/fundraiser later in the month, and there will be 50 people here enjoying dessert.  I knew that we needed to leave as much room as possible in the dining room because the desserts will be on that table.

Our decorations are mostly colorful glass ornaments.  I gave each of our children a box of their special ornaments last year so they can enjoy the sentimental ones that have particular meaning to them.  Since they are establishing their own Christmas memories, it was the right thing to do.  I have several of these white sparkly pine cones, and they’re my favorites.

We do have some very delicate and small glass ornaments that belonged to my grandmother, and they are very special to me.

She died before I was born, and I am named after her.

These antique ornaments are about the size of a ping pong ball.

I used a plaid stadium blanket to wrap the bottom.  I am all about plaid at Christmas.  Is your tree up and decorated yet?  This is the earliest ours has ever been up, and it makes our home feel very cozy.

Take care.

Lovely! My husband and I collect ornaments from our travels so our tree reminds us of all the places we have been since we began dating all those years ago. I somehow forgot to get one in Ireland on our last vacation so I guess I will just have to go back to make sure I get one in the future.

Laurie, we started collecting travel ornaments early onm but I didn’t continue. I will visit my 80th country next week, so that would have been 80 ornaments. Jordan is doing it, though.

I love the sentimentality of your tree. It’s perfect. I gave our kids their ornaments last year too…thought it was time. Artificial trees definitely have their place…you might try Scentsicles….scented ornaments. They give off that fir tree scent we all crave This time of year. Enjoy your day! 😉

I also use Scentsicles scented ornaments and love them! They make my tree smell like a real tree! Happy Holidays!

Maria, I love them, but my mom doesn’t like the ones she bought.
