When I wrote the recap of our bicycling trip to Bavaria, I mentioned that we would publish a post about just the flowers that we saw in beautiful Germany. Let me tell you this. Germans know how to do flowers and window boxes. Oh my……I only wish I could do window boxes and flowers the way they do. I think their northern location provides the right temperatures, rain fall, and long days that all contribute to the success. Here in the humid south, our poor plants struggle to look perky all summer long. It just gets too hot for our flowers to thrive the way they were meant to. Get ready for lots of photos and no words
Flowers are in window boxes everywhere.
This restaurant put them in a fountain beside their front door so that female customers could take one home with them.
I loved this red and white combo along the whole wall of this restaurant.
Even though we saw tons of flowers and gardens, we never really saw anyone working in their gardens. I think they must have had some garden gnomes do the work for them!!!
The window boxes really softened an exterior that didn’t have a lot of architectural detail.
I know they are considered generic, but I love geraniums. Marigolds….not so much.
When I’m on a bicycle, it takes a lot to get me to stop and take photos. You can see that I was stopping a lot on this trip. I hope you enjoyed those photos. When we came home from Germany, I bought more flowers. I just had to have some more. I realize it’s too late in the season to plant more annuals, but hopefully you got an idea or two that you can put to use next summer.
Take care.
