We are back with another edition of Tuesday thoughts. You all seemed to enjoy the one that Jordan wrote a few weeks ago, so we decided to post a little about what’s on our minds now and then. Today I (Janette) get to be the author. And let me start out by saying I love this time of year when the windows are open, and the heat and AC are both off. Our neighbor and we both have small fountains in our courtyards, and it’s so nice to fall asleep to the sound of water.
You might remember that I mentioned a while back that I was going to give clean eating a try. I went into it with the goal of eliminating sugars, gluten, and milk products from my diet for six weeks. Well, here it is almost nine weeks later, and I am still at it except for one thing. I am now occasionally eating pretzels. Pretzels and bagels were the two things that I missed the most. I thought it would be candy, cookies, and pies, but once I stopped eating sugars, the cravings for them stopped after just two days. I could write a whole post on this because there is so much to say, but I don’t want to bore you with the minutiae.
The latest book on organizing is Unstuffed. Have you read it? I am in the process of reading it now, and I just heard it’s on sale and going fast. Although we have many empty drawers and shelves, I still love a good book on decluttering. The author’s approach isn’t as drastic as The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up, which we were all reading last year.
That leads me to another trend that is going strong right now. Have you discovered hygge (pronounce hoo-gah?) It’s the Danish word for creating a cozy environment in your home. Apparently, it became popular here in the USA during the presidential campaign. I just read this book and learned all about it. I have been doing many of the practices the whole time and didn’t know it.
Mr. Right and I have a busy travel year. We are leaving for Thailand and Laos soon. We have been to both countries before and have even done a big bicycle trip there. This time we are joining up with some friends from Singapore and building a school. Mr. Right and I are in charge of the playground. We helped build a school in Laos a few years ago and installed one of the first playgrounds in the country. Shortly after we get home, we will leave for a bicycling trip in Germany. Then in August we are cycling from Moscow to St. Petersburg. These are some of the trips on the schedule.
Jordan has ordered her sofa from Ethan Allen, and it is ahead of schedule. You all helped her with her fabric selection, and she went with the navy leather. That was my choice, too.
(reveal of new fabric coming soon)
And by the way, get ready for a reveal of the chair I recently had reupholstered. It is sitting in our great room right now and looks wonderful – so clean and fresh. It turns out that the fabric that was your overall favorite by a landslide was not my favorite. However, I ended up going with one that wasn’t even a consideration at first.
Jordan gave me a set of the Rubbermaid Brillance storage containers that she blogged about here, and I LOVE them. I am getting rid of most of my small and medium size Tupperware and going with just the Rubbermaid Brillance. It’s that good. Unfortunately, I melted one of the lids when I had it too close to a burner on my stove.
I love to clean and have been doing it a long time. Why did it take me so long to discover how wonderful microfiber cleaning cloths are?
After seeing her vintage prints on the blog last week, Jordan and I are thinking maybe white frames would be better than black. She painted one of them white just two see if it looks better than black. Here’s a poor lighting/quick iphone shot that she took. We would love your opinion. Which frame do you think looks better?
That seems to be enough rambling for one day. We love being able to share our thoughts, homes, recipes, projects, and ideas with you. Thank you so much for spending some of your valuable time with us.
Take care.

Agree! White is the right way to go! Black detracts from pretty floral print .
Vicki says
The white frame looks so clean and bright and light! The dark one seems heavy and even too thin…weird, huh?
Janette says
Vicki, I like the white, too.
Kathy says
So glad you fessed up about melting one of your lids. I thought I was the only one that did that
Janette says
Kathy, I am sure there are a bunch of closeted melters out there!

Have a wonderful trip and enjoy your cycling

Thank you, Jan.

Either black or white frames will work depending on other aspects of the room. I love the vintage florals, but would use a different mat treatment. Did you consider a small check or a small multicolor plaid? For me, the random abstract pattern “fights” with the details of the floral.
Janette says
Karen, she just added that fabric to the mat a few weeks ago because she liked it so much. She definitely wants to keep it. The rest of the room has some color.

I love the black frames…they really emphasize the art.

I love these “Tuesday Thoughts”. It’s great to hear about favorite things from other women – best advice ever ! I am sure that many readers would love to hear the details about your journey into ‘clean’ eating. I am especially interested in completely giving up sugar, and have found it very hard, as I must be addicted ! Any advice you can give would be much appreciated !
Thanks for a great blog !!

The white frame makes the pictures look larger…for that print…I like the white better. What an interesting trip trip you have planned for Thailand and Laos…safe travels! 😉

I first learned about Hygee, the Danish Art of Coziness, when I visited Copenhagen several years ago. But this winter I learned about a new book about how to incorporate it into my home and life. I am working on getting my front porch ready for a good Hygee summer. Glad you are learning about these good ideas.
