When I was reading my latest issue of Country Living, I saw a very small mention about a big flea market in the Washington, DC area that was taking place this past week-end. I quickly sent off a text message to my daughter-in-law who. along with our son, lives in DC. Mr. Right and I were headed to their house for a visit, and I knew she and I would have a great time spending our Sunday afternoon at the flea market. On our way there we talked about how we had no idea just what kind of flea market this would be. We didn’t know if it would be the kind where you can buy 10 pairs of tube socks for $5.00 or if it would be the kind like the Scott’s in Atlanta. The fact that it was mentioned in my favorite magazine gave me hope.
We drove 50 minutes and when we pulled into the parking lot we saw lots of people and this big sign. Hmmm…..what could be waiting for us inside?
When we walked in, we were pleasantly surprised, and the hunt was on. I took photos of things that we like or that we thought you would like.
Old monogrammed napkins made into pillows.
This man had an outstanding collection of old posters. We just didn’t find one that would fit in with Josie’s decor.
Lots of kilim rugs and some cute throws.
Kitchen lights, anyone?
Frames for mirrors were made out of old ceiling tiles.
Old school house maps sell for a lot of money, but these were in Russian and German with reasonable prices. We weren’t sure if the fact that they weren’t in English lowered their value. I kinda regret not buying one since we are world travelers.
A cute Euro mailbox.
This fur vendor had tons of furs, and since it was soooo very cold outside, we had to have a little fun.

Looks most interesting! Where was it, and how often is it held?

June,
It was held in Chantilly, VA and they have other locations. The next one in the DC area is March. Here is the link about the market http://www.thebigfleamarket.com/

I went to this 6-7 years ago on a shopping with Eddie Ross trip when I lived in Fairfax. I got a few treasures. It was alot of fun with him. Looks like some of the same vendors are there. I bought one of those pillows made from antique monogrammed linens. I think they also have it in downtown DC several times a year.

Thanks so much! I know the Expo Center well from their fall Craft Fairs. Will make it a point to be there.
