How to Make a Spring Wreath

By Jordan | Projects

I  love being back in the South, and one of the reasons is because  I really get to enjoy spring.  Yesterday it was 70 degrees, and I planted pansies.  LOVE IT!  I never really owned a spring wreath in Syracuse because it was sometimes still snowing through April.  It seemed as if we went from winter to summer and having a spring wreath hanging on the door when the thermometer was below freezing just didn’t make any sense to me.  Thankfully, those days are behind me, and I get to embrace the season.  One of the benefits of having our first spring in our southern home is actually hanging a wreath and decorating our outdoor spaces.    I was going to buy a wreath, but after seeing how expensive ready-made wreaths are, I decided to make my own.  After all, this blog is all about DIY – right?

I did some searching on Pinterest and and found many cute ideas.  I really could have done a wreath for every day of the week.  It seemed as if the ones that I liked the most had a nature theme so that’s the theme I used for our front door.   I made the wreath in no time, and I’ll show you how.  Start off with a grape wreath, moss  (I found moss ribbon, which I loved.)  a bird, a nest, wooden eggs, and your initial, if you want.

I couldn’t find already painted eggs at the craft store, but they did have a bag of wooden eggs.  It was easy enough to add some paint to them, and they dried quickly.  Once they were dry, I hot glued them into the bird’s nest.

Next up, I wrapped moss ribbon around the wreath and secured it with hot glue.  This is easy but slightly messy.  There was green stuff on the table, but it was easy to wipe up.

Then I glued the bird to the nest and the nest to the wreath.  I’m not sure if those are the kinds of eggs that a blue jay lays, but we’ll pretend they are.

It is hard to tell, but I also painted our “H” a robin’s blue, which I thought was perfect for spring.  I glued the letter onto the wreath.

I then hung the wreath using raffia which added another texture.  With the addition of some pansies, our front door says, spring.

Cheers!
