(Before we get started today, some people are getting a weird ad/pop-up when they use their ipads or iphones to read our blog. We don’t have a clue what that is all about, but we are trying to get it removed.)
Hello, everyone. Thank you all from both of us for the nice birthday wishes. We really appreciate it. When we put away Christmas, I couldn’t wait to get a fresh look on the foyer table. I had to use the vintage New Year post card that I pull out every year, and then I shopped the house for other items that would give the small space a welcoming winter look.
The two lamps used to be brass and were on our side board. I painted them green a while back, but they have been hidden away in the basement. I pulled them out for Christmas, and I like the two together on this cabinet.
The black shades are the originals. Now let’s zoom in on what’s in the vignette.
I pulled out my very old Hans Brinker or The Silver Skates book.
It is topped with a magnifying glass whose handle looks like a tree branch.
A little blue and white coaster holds keys, some real and some not.
I got this ice skating painting on our trip to Italy last fall. It is perfect for this vignette.
Ahhh…..here’s the post card that I really like so much. For some much needed greenery, I just put one of our potted plants in a soup tureen sans lid.
I love the pops of color and the fresh look for the upcoming winter months.

Hi Janet
Foyer looks great.
Where is the beautiful, colorful rug from?
Janette says
Karen,
I bought the rug at a rug shop in Istanbul, Turkey when we flew there for a long week-end last year.

It is so amazing what a little paint will do.
I love the lamps for that pop of color and the keys are great.
Your dishes on the wall are beautiful
Have a wonderful day
