Hello, everyone! I have a question for you: How often do you clean your make-up brushes? Or maybe I should ask have you ever cleaned your make-up brushes???? I know……Where are you supposed to get time to add one more task to your ever-growing list of things to do? However, this one is kind of important. Our skin is our body’s largest organ, and we need to protect it any way we can. I don’t know about you, but I use my make-up brushes every time that I apply make-up, which is almost daily. If we don’t clean those brushes, the make-up just builds up on the bristles and gets stale. Then we are rubbing old gunk on our faces along with fresh new make-up every time. Don’t worry, though. I’m here to tell you how to clean make-up brushes. It is easy and fast.
I store my brushes in a mint julep cup on the top of my make-up counter. Since we only drink mint juleps one day a year around here, it’s nice to give those beautiful cups some other responsibilities.
About once a month I clean them. After I have applied my make-up for the day, I simply get each one wet……
and then wash each of them gently with shampoo.
Then I rinse them till the water runs clear.
I tap them on the side of the sink to remove extra water and then let them dry with the brush end hanging over the sink. That way any remaining water can drip into the sink, and they get exposed to the air. By the next morning, they are clean and fluffy and ready to go to work again.
That’s all there is to it. Why don’t you give it a try?

I have always used face wash to cleanse mine but I will have to try your method with shampoo. Great tip!

Hello- I read & enjoy your blog everyday!!!! Could you give any information on that Mint Julep Cup? Silver? Brand? Dimensions? What a wonderful way to display brushes!
Thank You!

Melinda, I was awarded that particular mint julep cup for being “volunteer of the year” for an organization I am involved with. Local jewelry stores have them, but you can buy mint julep cups online. The ones that I have are pewter because you do not have to polish them. However, they are available in silver and silverplate. The more you pay, the better the quality. I personally recommend pewter. Hope this helps!

OMG, my mind is blown! I just published an article yesterday on my blog about this very topic. I’ve been following your blog for about a year now which makes it even weirder (is this a word?) that we had the same idea for a blog post at the same time (although it looks like you came up with the idea first). I have to say though, this post is way better than mine. Instead of step-by-step instruction on cleaning the brushes along with pictures, I just linked to youtube videos. So lame. Not sure why I thought it would be fun to start a beauty blog – I’m a horrible writer.

Ally, that is crazy. Feel free to link that post to your blog for your readers. Thanks for reading The 2 Seasons.
