Five Spring Cleaning Tips

spring cleaning 681x1024 - Five Spring Cleaning Tips

At last!!! Spring is here, and it’s time to throw open those windows and transform your home from cozy and warm to bright, clean, and vibrant.  I get all giddy when it’s time to do some spring cleaning, and so we thought it might be nice to share five spring cleaning tips you can do to freshen your home, and get rid of its winter dust and dreariness.  These steps are beyond your weekly cleaning, but they really aren’t that time consuming or difficult.

1. WASH YOUR WINDOWS

Washing windows is one of the easiest ways to add some spring freshness to your home.  After washing windows, it’s as if someone cleaned the world because everything just has a little extra sparkle to it.  While you are at it, clean the mirrors, glass on your framed art and photos, and wipe down your light bulbs.  The best window solution that I highly recommend are equal parts distilled vinegar and water.  Put them in a spray bottle and wash away.  Even though it isn’t eco-friendly, I also use paper towels rather than old towels.  Sometimes towels have a residue on them from the washing detergent, fabric softener, or drying sheets, and that can make a smear on your clean windows.

2.  CLEAN YOUR BASEBOARDS

Dust builds up on the baseboards and on your doors, and all you have to do is wipe them with some sudsy water to get them nice and clean.

3.  CLEAN YOUR BED LINENS

Spring is a perfect time to clean your blankets, duvets, bed spreads, dust ruffles, pillow shams, etc.  If they aren’t actually soiled, an easy way to clean these items is to just put them in the dryer on the air setting with some dryer sheets.  This will loosen the dust and put it in the lint trap.  Anything that’s soiled needs to be either washed or taken to the dry cleaners.  If you are planning a to take a trip, have them cleaned while you’re away.

4.  CLEAN YOUR APPLIANCES

Is your Christmas cheese ball still sitting on a shelf in the back of your fridge?  Now’s the time to clean out the refrigerator, stove, and oven.  If you have a self-cleaning oven, then turn it on.  Also, pour two cups of distilled vinegar in your dish washer and washing machine, and run them through a cycle.  A repair man recommended this to me, and I do it once a month.  It gets rid of all of the built up gunk.  It’s also a good time to run some distilled vinegar through your Keurig machine.  I did this for Jordan on my last visit.  Just be sure to then run a few rounds of plain water through it before you make coffee.

5.  VACUUM YOUR UPHOLSTERED FURNITURE

This one might make your rich.  Who knows how many lost coins are just waiting for you to find them in the crevices of your sofa and chairs???  Just put the small nozzle on your vacuum cleaner and sweep away that winter dust (and dust bunnies.)

There, that wasn’t so bad, was it?  Tell us what you do special for spring cleaning.  We are always on the look-out to learn something new.  Thanks so much for stopping in.

Take care.

Great tips…I love my pillows after they’ve been on the air setting of our dryer…they are like new! Our new dryer has a steam cycle that works well too. Great to freshen the guest room before guests arrive.
