We live close to the Adirondacks and spend many summer weekends there, so we decided it would be nice to have our own Adirondack chair. Last year Mr. Spring started sawing pieces of wood and made one for our backyard. It is amazing that these chairs are actually comfortable. Once the chair was made, we put it outside, and that’s where it stayed all winter. Whoops…..

As you have probably guessed, winter did take a toll on the chair, and I decided it needed some TLC to make it look its best for our summer lounging. Plus, it needed to be washed down since a bird left his mark, too.
The color had turned a weathered gray, which isn’t always a bad thing, but the wood was not smooth at all anymore.

First, I gave the chair a good cleaning and then went to town sanding to make it smooth again. It is hard to tell, but this arm is now smooth and ready for the next step, painting or staining.

Mr. Spring is a fan of the stain, and since he made the chair, I was on board to stain it for him. Then I remembered I had a product in the basement that we received from Haven last year, and I had not had the opportunity to use it. I had a few cans of Thompson Water Seal wood stain. It was so easy to use. I did two light coats of the stain, and I love the new protective look.

The finished chair looks great, and now it even has a protective coating on it. I found this cute little outdoor pillow at Target, and it adds a fun touch of color.
Now it’s time to grab a book, sit back, and enjoy some summer sun. I need to convince Mr. Spring that we need both a his and hers Adirondack chair!
Cheers!

Looks fantastic!…Great job and great product!!!
Thanks Shirley,
I am so happy with the end result and the stain was so easy. Yes great product.
Cheers!
You ABSOLUTELY need TWO chairs!!! We love ours. They stay outside all year, and I have to paint them every single summer. But the result is worth it!
Julie,
I agree with the two chairs. I now see a weekend project of making another chair coming on as a to do!
Cheers!
It looks great! I haven’t tried Thompson’s stain, but now I want too 🙂
