Happy Monday. I got a call from the 80’s last week, and they wanted their rugs back. Sadly, I rolled them up and obliged, but first I made two awesome purchases.
We folded and bought two seagrass rugs for our great room. This one you see is in the dining part of the room, obviously.
And this one is in the seating part of the room. I know there is a lot of neutral going on, but there are also a lot of textures. I am fine with it since that’s the taste faze I am in right now.
If my elementary teachers had asked me what my favorite crayon color was, my answer never would have been beige. No way. I love any blue, but in our home I like those blues with yellows, reds, and greens.
With colorful pillows, that can be switched out seasonally, colorful art, flowers, lamps, and accessories, I can have it all. Just last week I wrote about adding color with accessories to our kitchen hutch. You can read about that here.
The original Persian rugs were definitely investment purchases that we bought from a dealer in NYC when we first moved to Lexington years ago. We have them in the basement storage area right now with plans to move them to our bedrooms in the fall. We’re thinking it might be nice to step on the rugs rather than the hardwoods when we get up each morning.
Although our new seagrass rugs are a little rough on the bare feet, they certainly aren’t rough on the eyes. I love the way they look and the way they make our room feel as if it is truly 2013.

Yes, I have rugs like yours in my living room, dining room, family room, & foyer. Some are Karastans and some are hand-knotted rugs. All classic investments–so we thought when we bought them in the late 80’s/early 90’s. They all have a good bit of navy in them and navy is making a comeback in decorating colors. But alas I don’t see one oriental rug in any decorating show, mag, or blog. We moved 18 mos ago from a house with light hardwood floors to a house with dark wood floors. So in addition to not being on-trend, my rugs just look dark with the dark floors. I too have thought about giving the rugs a holiday in the basement storage closet, but haven’t pulled the trigger yet. Always fun to see what others are up to! My husband is of the “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” mindset, so if he ever figures out that all my changes are brought on by you blogger ladies, he might pull the plug on my computer:)

Where did you get the rugs? I was thinking they might be good for a screen porch area…..what is your opinion?

Erin,
Hi! I ordered them from Ballards Design. I also have one in our porch/sunroom, and it works great out there.
