We Updated the Powder Room

By Jordan | Before and After

A powder room is a must in my eyes.  When we are entertaining and have guests, they have a small bathroom they can use. Since we only have one full bath upstairs in our house, we are happy that an owner in our house’s history decided to get creative and install a half bath under the stairs.  This is one room I did not do a thing to since we moved in a little over two years ago. This room is TINY so it is very hard to photograph.

This is the before.  It was a basic tan, and personally, I was never a fan of it.  It looked as if it belonged in an army barracks somewhere.

This is truly under the stairs and you can tell by the small/strange angle.  The previous owner added leftover shelves and a make-shift mirror.  We are too tall even to use the mirror, so there is a full length mirror on the wall beside the toilet.  The shelf had a outlet that we hid with our proposal picture.

Here’s another angle of that awkward shelf, and you are about to get the back story on our proposal photo.

Engaged 1024x768 - We Updated the Powder Room

Mr. Spring and I love to be outside.  When we were living in Atlanta, he planned a week-end getaway to go to Cumberland Island for kayaking and camping.  Cumberland Island is amazing but a lot of people had never heard of it till a Kennedy came along.  This is the island where John Kennedy and Carolyn Bessette married.  This island doesn’t have public cars and is very remote.  We chose to kayak to it.  On the way we had dolphins jumping out of the water right beside us.    Once on the island, we hiked to the north part because I wanted to see the little church where they were married.  I couldn’t believe how small it was.  Mr. Spring was setting up our tripod to take a picture together  which we do all the time when we are out on adventures.  I didn’t think a thing of it.  However, this time he got down on one knee, asked me to marry him,  and we  got the whole thing on camera.  I said yes and the rest is history………  Ok, back to the bathroom.

The main thing I didn’t like was the color, so I decided to go with the same color we used in our dining room.  It is Silver Drop by Behr.  It really brightens up the tiny room.  I decided also to bring pops of green in.  The rug is a different shad of green that blends well.  Remember it’s blendy, blendy, – not matchy, matchy.  I also added a striped valance with stripes in green, grey, navy, and white.

Here you can see the full length mirror.  I want to add a frame around it so it will look more finished.

The green tin on the toilet was one I had from a gift basket and decided to spray it that pop of green.  I wasn’t sure what I wanted as art and learned about Free Vintage Posters.com.  While searching, I found some cute winter prints.  I printed them up and hung them.  I figure I will switch it to something summery when the weather warms up.  Plus, when I get tired of it, they will be easy to change.

I was never a fan of the small shelves and mirror, so we decided to remove them.  It is still a small space, but it appears somewhat bigger.  Plus, the ceiling in this section is painted the grey. I already had the mirror in my house and just painted it the same pop of green. I am thrilled with the new color, but if I get sick of the green, it will be super easy to change.  There’s almost nothing a little paint can’t fix.

I love the bathroom redo…the green is beautiful. I recently attende a DIH workshop at Home Depot and learned how to add glass tile to mirror. That would look nice on the mirror you have. Yiu can read about it here – http://www.geminiredcreations.com/home-depot-cumberland-dih-workshop-mirror-framing-with-tile/

Also, would love to have you or your mom guest post on my blog!
