When we moved into our house, we discovered one of the joys of an old house. There is a lack of ceiling lights and electrical outlets. We did add electric to our dining room and added this fun light. However, many other rooms needed lamps for lighting. I used some creativity and just a little money and ended up buying all of our tabletop lamps at the thrift store.
These were my first thrift store lamp purchase, and we bought them right after we moved in. Like many thrift store lamps, they were brass and just needed some TLC. I went with an Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint and a basic shade from Target. These are in our living room, and we use them every night.
This is the newest addition to our living room. Recently we added a loveseat and realized we needed a light behind the sofa so we could see to read. We are still working on the set up right now. It sits on a stool with multiple books on the stool to get the lamp at the right height. This lamp was a beautiful mauve that needed some love. I went with a silver spray paint and the shade is from Lowe’s. I was shocked Lowe’s had such a cute shade.
This lamp is on a dresser on the other side of the living room or some might even call it the foyer – not quite sure. Anyway, this was another brass beauty, and I wanted a fun color so I went with this green. The shade is from Target. This green complements the green and white shade that is across the room.
The kitchen does actually have recessed lights, but I didn’t always want them turned on. So, at night this little lady comes on. It is just enough so I can see my way to the back door to let Gracie out before bedtime. I really lucked out with lamp shades coming from Target because this one is from Target as well. A good price and good selection are perfect for me.

I love your lamps! Do you have to do anything to a brass lamp before you spray paint it?
(sand, prime….?)
Thanks, Shannon
