I want to give Carmel over at Our Fifth House a shout-out for giving me the idea for this project. She showed how to use any wrapping paper that you like to enhance the mats on your photos or artwork.
We revamped the bar area last week in our house. Even though the look was updated, I wanted to still use six black and white photos that I snapped while on a bicycling trip in France. They just looked at home on the bar, but I knew they would be more interesting if the mats were dressed up a little bit. I bought some black and white striped paper and used it to cover the existing mats that were already in the frames.
Just like Carmel instructed, I wrapped the outside like a gift and then cut an opening in the center.
Then I just cut diagonal slits in the corners and folded in the insides.
Then I put them all back together with the original photos and the original frames.
Although it is hard to see it in this photo, this is a shot of a French monastery that was blown up in WW II.
I hung two prints on top of the mirror on each side of the bar and propped one on each side.
The black and white paper with the black and white photos are just the right combo to go along with everything else I did to the bar.
Take care.

This is a great idea. You have done an excellent job on these photos and the bar remake. I would love to have an area like yours, but my bar would have to share space with the coffee machine.

What a great idea! I think my son would love if I used some Thomas the Train matting in his play area!
