All the Queen’s Horses, Part 2

By Janette | Out and About, Travel

Author:  Autumn

Tuesday we showed you some photos of the Queen’s Mews that house the royal cars, carriages, and horses.  Here are a few more shots that I took when visiting Buckingham Palace last September.

This is a photo of the ceiling in a huge room that holds a special 14 karat gold-trimmed carriage.  This carriage is only used by the new monarchs during coronations to take them to and from Westminster Abbey.

Queen P2d 1024x768 - All the Queen's Horses, Part 2

Jordan didn’t like this photo, but I decided to show you anyway.  She thinks the horse’s eyes look eerie.   They only had one live token horse in the stables that day, and this guy was it.

The photo below shows the coronation carriage.  That means it has been sitting in this huge room since the 1950’s.  It has been in existence since the 1500’s which means it is older than our country.  A large team of horse with riders on their backs pull the carriage because the solid gold trim makes it weigh tons.

When you look at the photo below, you can see a wall in the background where pictures are hanging.  In order to get this large carriage out of the building, they have to remove that wall.  Yep!  Can you imagine?  But it’s not like they need to do it that often.  Every sixty years or so wouldn’t be too bad.

We, here at The 2 Seasons, plan to watch every minute of the royal wedding, except we’ll be in two separate cities.  What about you?  Are you getting up early to watch the festivities?

I’m going to watch the umpteen hundreds of replays instead of getting up early to watch. Actually, DVR might be the best bet of all!

Autumn…I’ll be up bright and early with your daughter! She’s spending the night at my place tonight and we plan on getting up early to watch the events. She is saying that we’re getting up at 4, I am saying 5. The pregnant girl with the two small children wants to catch an extra hour of sleep. 🙂
    We can’t wait!

I will be up at 4 with a homemade cranberry/orange scone beside me and a hot cup of English breakfast tea to wash it down.

This was such an interesting post. I had never seen the coronation carriage before. Wasn’t the wedding great? I woke up in the middle of the night here in California and watched the procession out of the cathedral and then the highlights in the morning.

I loved every single minute of it and have watched the replays over and over. I think I could be their stalker!
