Hi everyone! We are so thankful that we have been fortunate enough to do walking tours in England the last three years. Not only is it a great way to get some exercise while seeing beautiful scenery, but it’s also a great way to discover how people across the pond really live. One of the things I love about traveling is that we can steal borrow little ideas from our vacations and bring them home with us. One of those ideas that I brought home this year was to use slate as place mats. Many of the restaurants and pubs in the small villages where we ate used pieces of slate as place mats. They are so attractive and practical that I had to share it with you.
Of course, it took me a while to jump on this idea, but I finally got around to buying two rectangular pieces of slate here and putting them to use.
These slate place mats were sold by World Market as cheese trays, and I’m sure they would be very good at doing that job. So, that means I can get more than one use out of them. Also, they can be cleaned by just giving them a quick wipe, they can also serve as place cards, and each corner has a tiny plastic knob to help protect tabletops.
That’s the kind of purchase I like to make! How about you? Are you using something in your home that was meant to do something else?
Take care.
