I have a French sister named Madeleine. Well, she isn’t my blood sister, but we have been through so much together that we have developed a sisterly relationship. She considers me her American sister, and she is my French sister. She and her husband moved to Brussels for tax purposes after he retired, and that is their main residence for six months of the year. The rest of the year, when they aren’t traveling on some wild, crazy adventure, they live in one of their three (yes you read that correctly) residences in France. One is on the ocean in Brittany, one is in Provence, and one is a French chalet in ski country. Madeleine is an artist who specializes in mosaics and has done some incredible work, but she is also dabbles in paints.
When I visited her for a week-end in Brussels, I was so impressed with this headboard that she had painted in one of the guest bedrooms. This was long before I knew what a blog was and was when we lived in our house in the suburbs. It was also before I knew anything about good photography!! I loved that headboard, thought it was so creative and wanted one for myself.

Decal Headboard
When we moved into our townhouse, we sold our old Ethan Allen headboard that we had owned for years because the new bed frame that we bought didn’t fit with it. That was my chance to get a faux French headboard decal. I couldn’t believe there was a company that made headboard decals. I loved it but just felt that it was more for an apartment or a dorm room. In other words, after living with it for over a year, I felt it was time for Mr. Right and me to grow up and get a real headboard.
I have always loved the padded headboards and felt as if they had a Hollywood glam element to them. However, I was also afraid they would be a trend and as soon as I ordered one, then they would become dated and out. But I bought one anyway, and we are really happy with it. Here’s a peak. I took theses photos a few weeks ago before I put fall in the room. We both think our room looks as if grown-ups live here now. Oh, by they way, Madeleine has a padded headboard in her master bedroom in Brussels, too,
Oh I love the “peek” of your new headboard … and those decals are so very cute!….So nice that your friend has 3 homes in France….I think I would be a regular guest!
