More Painted Curtains

By Jordan | Decorating, Projects

Everyone says that curtains really make a room, and I totally agree.  They add softness, color and make a room feel more put together.

I love the gray stripes I added to some Ikea curtains for our master bathroom.  In fact, I loved them so much that I decided to tackle another curtain project for the dining room.

I stenciled curtains a while back for our dining room, but I decided I wanted more of a pop in my curtains.  These curtains were sweet and worked for the time, but they now call the guest room home.  They replaced some white blah Ikea curtains that once hung there.  That paved the way for me to get out the paint and go crazy get creative with some new white curtains.

At first I wasn’t sure what color I wanted to do.  Then I looked at my chair and thought I would pull the gold out of the chair.  I made a quick trip to the hardware store and  came back with a few paint samples and matched one up.  I was ready to go to work.  I measured and taped just like I did for the gray curtains.  I even did the Mod Podge trick again to hold down the tape.  Well, let me tell you – it didn’t work as well this time.

The gold was a lighter color, and when I went to hang the curtains, I could really see a Mod Podge line.  I didn’t have this issue with the dark gray.  So, dear readers, make a  note that this method works great for dark colors but not as well on the lighter colors.  So, back to the table I went, but oh no, I was almost out of paint.  I went back to the local hardware store to get some more mixed using the same formula as before.  I bet you know where this is going.

I came home and after taping off the lines again, I opened my paint and realized it was not the same color.  Now I know the paint can be a tad different, but this color was so pale compared to the first mix.  Back to the store I went.  It turns out that this simple project was taking a lot longer than expected.

But oh was it worth it!!  After taping and applying two more coats, the curtains had the bold pop of color I was looking for in our dining room.

This is one of my favorite rooms in the house because it is so bright, and great times are had around this table.  You can read more about this room here, here, here, here, and here.

Wow I cant believe you painted them, they look fantastic. Love the yellow and I love stripes, cant get enough of them! I agree curtains really soften the windows and blinds. I have them in the bedrooms and living room over timber blinds and they are so cosy in winter and keep the heat out in summer!

I love these. We bought an 1878 farm house this summer and are moving into it this week. We originally planned to take the gold on brown textured design ones, but they are heavy looking –they are for noise reduction—and too big. Since we plan to rent this to fracking men who just want a clean place to eat and sleep, I am leaving them here.
But I’m not a diyer, so I can’t see me undertaking what you did. But you all are inspiring me to try stuff with this farm house–lots of inspiration!
