Quick Fixes

By Jordan | Before and After, Projects

I have been working on some spring cleaning, and I have done a couple quick fixes that I wanted to share with you.

I changed the handles on a piece of furniture, first.

Fix dresser before 1024x763 - Quick Fixes

I bought this dresser at the Salvation Army store for $20 last year and gave it a face lift with some black paint. You can read all about it here.  I kept the orginal handles and painted them black, also.  They didn’t bother me.  But since the dresser has been moved to the living room/foyer, I decided it was time to spiff it up a little more. I did have a plant on the right side of the dresser to add color, but it didn’t survive the winter.   Now the area is a perfect place for Gracie’s toy basket. Here is an action shot of her getting a toy.

I am loving the fresh, modern look.   If I ever want to change its look again, changing the handles is such an easy way to do it.

After the dresser project, I fixed a slipping rug problem.

Rug before 1024x841 - Quick Fixes

I got this rug from Overstock for our kitchen.  We have hardwood floors, so the rug is always sliding around even with the rug gripper you can see in the picture.   I read this tip on a blog, and I am sorry to say I do not remember which blog.  However, she got the tip from Martha Stewart.

Rug Fix 2 1024x806 - Quick Fixes

I put latex acrylic caulk on the back side and let the caulk dry for at least two hours before I turned the rug back over.

I added strips about 6 inches apart.  It is much better than the gripper pad I was using.  I am, however, going to add some more caulk going the other directions.   I am thrilled with the easiness and effectiveness of this little tip.

We did another rug fix in our living room.  We have hard wood floors with big area rug and wanted to have some of the softness and cushion feel of carpet.  We  bought carpet padding at Home Depot and put it under the rug.

We splurged and bought the thick pad.  (This photo was taken with my phone).  I placed the cushion down first and put the rug on top.

I then went back and cut the excess off.  People who come over always comment on how soft the rug is in our living room.

Mr. Spring helped with the third quick fix.  He changed out our toilets to a dual flusher.  This is a great way to save water and money.  It didn’t take him long, and we are happy that we are saving water.

Hope you enjoyed my little fixes.  Do you have any quick fixes that you are glad you did?

Love the idea of all these quick fixes, but I’m particularly digging the rug slipping problem. This is a huge problem in our kitchen. Our rugs are supposed to be reversible but I never really reverse them, so I think I may have to try this. And I know for a fact we have a stock of caulk in my garage so we should be good to go.
