\u00a0 There are a lot of shelves, they are sturdy, and we have lots of bins full of <del>stuff<\/del>\u00a0 miscellaneous items. \u00a0Of course we would keep them. \u00a0Who doesn&#8217;t love instant storage?????<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>There was one shelf that was a little bit nicer, a little bit sturdier than the others, and so we brought it upstairs. \u00a0It is no longer a storage shelf. \u00a0It is living its second life as furniture in the form of a bookshelf in our study.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/2012\/03\/25\/almost-free-makeover\/bookshelf-before\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-9022\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-9022\" title=\"Before\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Bookshelf-Before-780x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"468\" height=\"614\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Bookshelf-Before-780x1024.jpg 780w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Bookshelf-Before-246x323.jpg 246w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 468px) 100vw, 468px\" \/><\/a><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">We have been using it unpainted and \u00a0loaded with books and other stuff. \u00a0Our study is a mixture of his space and my space. \u00a0Mr. Spring has a desk and area, and I have my desk and area.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/2012\/03\/25\/almost-free-makeover\/bookshelf-before-close-up\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-9023\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-9023\" title=\"Before\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Bookshelf-before-close-up-682x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"409\" height=\"614\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Bookshelf-before-close-up-682x1024.jpg 682w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Bookshelf-before-close-up-215x323.jpg 215w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 409px) 100vw, 409px\" \/><\/a><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">There is nothing special about this bookshelf, but it was free and works for now. \u00a0I decided our study needed at least one painted piece of furniture. \u00a0My desk is a beautiful antique roll top desk that I got from my parents. \u00a0Mr. Spring would be shocked to know that there are some things I wouldn&#8217;t paint, and the paint will not come close to the roll top desk.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/2012\/03\/25\/almost-free-makeover\/bookshelf-white\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-9020\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-9020\" title=\"Mid process\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Bookshelf-white-732x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"439\" height=\"614\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Bookshelf-white-732x1024.jpg 732w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Bookshelf-white-230x323.jpg 230w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 439px) 100vw, 439px\" \/><\/a><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">However, I had no sentimental attachment to the shelf. \u00a0Its wood was not a very good quality nor was it in very good condition. \u00a0So, I attacked it with a paint brush. \u00a0Here it is all painted white, and it adds a freshness to the room. \u00a0The room is painted a very light green with white trim, and the shelf now POPS!!! \u00a0The green isn&#8217;t showing up too well in these photos.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/2012\/03\/25\/almost-free-makeover\/bookshelf-white-side\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-9021\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-9021\" title=\"Up close\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Bookshelf-white-side-682x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"409\" height=\"614\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Bookshelf-white-side-682x1024.jpg 682w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Bookshelf-white-side-215x323.jpg 215w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 409px) 100vw, 409px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">I liked the white but thought it needed a little something more. \u00a0I almost added fabric to the back of our dining room hutch when I did its transformation last fall but decided not to. (You can read all about the before and after of the hutch <a href=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/2011\/10\/24\/our-new-hutch\/\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/2011\/11\/07\/hutch-update\/\">here<\/a>). \u00a0Well, the hutch escaped the fabric enhancement, but this bookshelf didn&#8217;t.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/2012\/03\/25\/almost-free-makeover\/bookshelf-fabric\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-9025\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-9025\" title=\"Fabric\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Bookshelf-fabric-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"614\" height=\"409\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Bookshelf-fabric-1024x682.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Bookshelf-fabric-430x286.jpg 430w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 614px) 100vw, 614px\" \/><\/a><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">This fabric was on sale at Hobby Lobby, and I thought it had a little something but not too much. \u00a0Also, the green is perfect with the soft green walls.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/2012\/03\/25\/almost-free-makeover\/bookshelf-tools\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-9024\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-9024\" title=\"Tools\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Bookshelf-tools-1024x732.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"614\" height=\"439\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Bookshelf-tools-1024x732.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Bookshelf-tools-430x307.jpg 430w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 614px) 100vw, 614px\" \/><\/a><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">I used these tools to \u00a0measure and cut the fabric. \u00a0Once I cut the fabric to size for each shelf, I used Mod Podge as a glue to attach the fabric and tried my best to smooth it out. \u00a0Once it was on, I then covered the fabric with a layer of Mod Podge. \u00a0Sorry there are no pictures of that step.
