{"id":8369,"date":"2012-03-07T19:31:24","date_gmt":"2012-03-08T00:31:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/?p=8369"},"modified":"2012-03-07T19:31:24","modified_gmt":"2012-03-08T00:31:24","slug":"we-have-a-guest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/?p=8369","title":{"rendered":"We Have a Guest!!!"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Two things we love here at <em>The 2 Seasons<\/em> are company and kitchens. \u00a0In today&#8217;s post we have both. \u00a0Please welcome Carmel from\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ourfifthhouse.com\/\">Our Fifth House<\/a>.<\/em>\u00a0 We&#8217;re excited that Carmel is writing a guest post about her gorgeous kitchen. \u00a0She and her husband did a lot of the work, and I think you&#8217;ll really enjoy reading about it and getting to know her. \u00a0And if you haven&#8217;t stopped by her blog yet, be sure to do so. \u00a0I bet you will make it a regular read. \u00a0Now, here&#8217;s Carmel.<\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">*****<\/h3>\n<h3>Hello, I&#8217;m Carmel from<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ourfifthhouse.com\/\"><em> Our Fifth House<\/em>.<\/a> \u00a0It&#8217;s such a pleasure to be be here today. \u00a0Janette and I both live in Lexington, and we recently met for lunch. \u00a0It was so fun to put a face to the blog name, and I hope I have the chance to meet Jordan sometime too! \u00a0Anyhow, since Jordan recently painted her kitchen cabinets white I thought I&#8217;d share my own kitchen cabinet makeover.<\/h3>\n<h3>The inspiration behind my decision to distress my kitchen cabinets came from <a href=\"http:\/\/ourfifthhouse.blogspot.com\/2011\/05\/my-dream-kitchen-what-do-you-think.html\">this article<\/a>. \u00a0I fell in love with that French inspired kitchen and decided I needed a little of that in my life s&#8217;il vous plait! \u00a0We inherited black granite counter tops and painted white cabinets from the previous owners, so we weren&#8217;t too far off of the inspiration kitchen. \u00a0All I needed to do was distress the cabinets to achieve the look. \u00a0It wasn&#8217;t a difficult task but it was time consuming. \u00a0Here&#8217;s a recap of the process.<\/h3>\n<h3>1. \u00a0Remove all of the cabinet hardware.<\/h3>\n<h3>2. \u00a0Sand the cabinets\u00a0with a sanding block.<\/h3>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-3au1DiQjDb0\/ThP2QL-B2xI\/AAAAAAAABlo\/Z7gZyQi0qwY\/s1600\/P1130113.JPG\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-3au1DiQjDb0\/ThP2QL-B2xI\/AAAAAAAABlo\/Z7gZyQi0qwY\/s400\/P1130113.JPG\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"400\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<h3>It was a messy job. \u00a0Like really really really <em>messy<\/em>. \u00a0Sanding inside is a pain in the what, and did I mention it&#8217;s a mess?!<\/h3>\n<p><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-GGaDcYMJNA8\/ThP2IpPYWFI\/AAAAAAAABlk\/9d5wSA6hioo\/s1600\/P1130097.JPG\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-GGaDcYMJNA8\/ThP2IpPYWFI\/AAAAAAAABlk\/9d5wSA6hioo\/s640\/P1130097.JPG\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>I guess we could have taken the doors off and sanded outside, but the bases needed to be sanded as well so it seemed pointless to me. \u00a0Before you sand, cover your appliances with plastic drop cloths and take everything off of your counter tops. \u00a0 Our house is just over 20 years old so we didn&#8217;t have to worry about any lead paint issues. \u00a0I kept a vacuum handy and just cleaned as we went.<\/h3>\n<h3>3. \u00a0When all of the sanding is done, clean clean clean. \u00a0Wipe down all of your cabinets with a tack cloth and then a damp rag. \u00a0Make sure all traces of dust are gone.<\/h3>\n<h3>4. \u00a0Bust out the antiquing glaze. \u00a0I did not actually &#8220;distress&#8221; my cabinets. \u00a0These cabinets have a wood grain. \u00a0I knew the glaze would get into the grain, so I decided that alone would give them enough of a distressed look. \u00a0I could have used a small nail to scratch up the doors and drawers in places. \u00a0However these cabinets are over 20 years old, so they were already worn (dented\/nicked\/scratched) in places. \u00a0The antiquing glaze was all I needed to achieve the look I was after for my kitchen.<\/h3>\n<p><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-l17IH973wts\/ThP2eBeMMUI\/AAAAAAAABls\/mNiP6qnJLAQ\/s1600\/P1130098.JPG\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-l17IH973wts\/ThP2eBeMMUI\/AAAAAAAABls\/mNiP6qnJLAQ\/s640\/P1130098.JPG\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Apply the glaze sparingly.<\/h3>\n<p><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-vRFJ0u4srws\/ThP2rVLihTI\/AAAAAAAABl0\/JJev7TKlHhc\/s1600\/P1130099.JPG\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-vRFJ0u4srws\/ThP2rVLihTI\/AAAAAAAABl0\/JJev7TKlHhc\/s640\/P1130099.JPG\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Let it sit for a minute or so and then use a damp (not wet) cloth to wipe the off the glaze.<\/h3>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-KpdbAR9HTtA\/ThP21e1m3tI\/AAAAAAAABl4\/OtoOI0fcUJE\/s1600\/P1130100.JPG\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-KpdbAR9HTtA\/ThP21e1m3tI\/AAAAAAAABl4\/OtoOI0fcUJE\/s640\/P1130100.JPG\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<h3>When you&#8217;re finished glazing wait for at least a day before you add a top coat. \u00a0You want the glaze to dry completely.<\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-XczN7eTrqkA\/ThP2-xD_jPI\/AAAAAAAABl8\/vELfbR0djZg\/s1600\/P1130101.JPG\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-XczN7eTrqkA\/ThP2-xD_jPI\/AAAAAAAABl8\/vELfbR0djZg\/s640\/P1130101.JPG\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/h3>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-wfjHGuiVZBs\/ThP3IMFJsbI\/AAAAAAAABmA\/6nA4pfGDtxc\/s1600\/P1130103.JPG\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-wfjHGuiVZBs\/ThP3IMFJsbI\/AAAAAAAABmA\/6nA4pfGDtxc\/s640\/P1130103.JPG\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<h3>5. \u00a0Apply a top coat. \u00a0I used polycrylic and applied it with a sponge brush. \u00a0Sand between coats for a nice smooth finish. \u00a0I only did 2 coats and that seemed to be enough for a nice wipeable finish.<\/h3>\n<h3>6. \u00a0Let the topcoat dry for about 24 hours before you add your hardware.<\/h3>\n<p><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-QErKRrSzwiQ\/ThP35Rjp7iI\/AAAAAAAABmc\/SWCdDT_G4GU\/s1600\/P1130239.JPG\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-QErKRrSzwiQ\/ThP35Rjp7iI\/AAAAAAAABmc\/SWCdDT_G4GU\/s640\/P1130239.JPG\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>I also added a piece of decorative moulding (Lowe&#8217;s) to the area under the sink.<\/h3>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-inHhGJ9nwn4\/ThP3WgOz-5I\/AAAAAAAABmI\/oxCQ3tQ9FHY\/s1600\/P1130106.JPG\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-inHhGJ9nwn4\/ThP3WgOz-5I\/AAAAAAAABmI\/oxCQ3tQ9FHY\/s400\/P1130106.JPG\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<h3>Gorilla wood glue was all I needed.<\/h3>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-QIOEKoLgjcg\/ThP3k1AGwdI\/AAAAAAAABmM\/IfxyjXk46_M\/s1600\/P1130107.JPG\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-QIOEKoLgjcg\/ThP3k1AGwdI\/AAAAAAAABmM\/IfxyjXk46_M\/s400\/P1130107.JPG\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<h3>Then I used some masking tape to hold it in place while the glue dried. \u00a0Once dry, I painted and glazed. \u00a0So easy and makes such a difference!<\/h3>\n<p><a style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\" href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-Q3wox3Iiuy8\/ThP3r6SA-nI\/AAAAAAAABmQ\/JTmGwIZbO5g\/s1600\/P1130109.JPG\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-Q3wox3Iiuy8\/ThP3r6SA-nI\/AAAAAAAABmQ\/JTmGwIZbO5g\/s640\/P1130109.JPG\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"242\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a style=\"margin-left: 1em;
