We’re doing our own version of “house<\/del>\u00a0room crashing” today. \u00a0My friend Amanda, her husband Mike and their family live in Ohio. \u00a0Amanda and Mike are both attorneys, but right now she is busy being a full-time mom.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

Since work took me to her city a lot last summer and fall, I had the opportunity to spend some time and even do some projects with her. \u00a0 We worked on a temporary nursery for her third son\u00a0here.<\/a>\u00a0 Once Henry was born, Amanda and Mike realized they needed more space. \u00a0They moved to a bigger home that works better for their family. \u00a0The home is overall in great condition, but they wants to make it really theirs through painting and decorating.<\/h3>\n

The last time I worked in Ohio, \u00a0I added an extra day to my \u00a0business trip so I could help her paint and stencil the dining room.<\/h3>\n

This is the way the dining room looked before they bought the house. The walls were a beige; there was carpet in the room; and she was not a fan of the light. \u00a0She has lots of projects planned, so we did what we could in the short time we were together.<\/h3>\n

This is just another view of the room before they moved in. \u00a0I have to say I am a big fan of that buffet.<\/h3>\n

Before they moved in Amanda painted her boys’ rooms, and she painted the dining room a soft blue. \u00a0She called me and said that she hated the color and \u00a0was going to repaint. \u00a0I told her to wait, and I would help. \u00a0The new color she picked is in the gold family. \u00a0When we started, we got carried away, so this is the only picture I have with some of the blue in it.<\/h3>\n

When the painting was finished, Amanda decided to add a stencil, but she didn’t know which one to use. \u00a0She tested a few, and this is one of them.<\/h3>\n

The next one we tested out was a fleur de lys. \u00a0Once it was up, she liked it. \u00a0That was easy.<\/h3>\n

While I was at work the next day, she was able to make a lot of stenciling progress during her boys’ nap time. \u00a0I was able to help some, but Amanda did most of it.<\/h3>\n

Here is the after. \u00a0Doesn’t it look better? \u00a0They also added new hardwood floors, a new light, new curtains and curtain rods.<\/h3>\n

This is the same view as the first photo above, but it shows Amanda’s changes. \u00a0The hutch belonged to her grandmother, and that is another project Amanda conquered despite having three active boys under age four!!! \u00a0She painted it with chalk paint in off white.<\/h3>\n

So, there you go. \u00a0Amanda proved that it is possible to make great changes to a space despite being a very busy new mom.<\/h3>\n
