Happy Boxing Day!!! \u00a0Jordan and I decided to revisit some of our favorite posts from 2011 this week. \u00a0Today I am reintroducing you to our kitchen. \u00a0(Be sure to check out the link to our pantry). \u00a0We moved into our townhouse in May after gutting it and undergoing a total remodel job. \u00a0For those of you new to our blog, my husband and I downsized from a 4,000 square feet home in the burbs to a 3,000 square feet townhouse in an historic part of downtown Lexington. \u00a0Also, these photos were taken before I had my new camera.<\/em><\/h3>\n

Well, as of today we have been in our new place three weeks, and only a few boxes are left to unpack. \u00a0There is occasionally a worker dropping in to fine-tune something, and the painters still are adding some final strokes of genius to our walls.<\/h3>\n

I promised you on Monday that the next room to be revealed would be the kitchen. \u00a0Please keep in mind that, other than \u201cLulubelle, The Cow\u201d\u00a0(read about her here<\/a>), \u00a0art work has not been added, but first we need to take another visit to the kitchen BEFORE we bought it.<\/h3>\n

The first two are photos I took on the day we first looked at the place. \u00a0The owner was a single gentleman who spent a lot of money on new granite and stainless appliances, but they just didn\u2019t speak to us. \u00a0We were able to salvage the cabinets and move them to our new pantry. \u00a0The wall on the left is now gone.<\/h3>\n

This is his kitchen eating area. \u00a0Notice the red below the chair rail and the gold above it.<\/h3>\n

I took this photo after we had removed his Pergo floors but before the painters did their magic. \u00a0The purple area is the pantry. \u00a0I revealed the new\/improved pantry \u00a0here.<\/a><\/h3>\n

This is the full view looking in from the hallway. \u00a0The light isn\u2019t too good in this shot. \u00a0We went with a bluish gray pennisula that is glazed white, white cabinets everywhere else, a farmhouse kitchen sink, and carrara marble on all of the countertops.<\/h3>\n

We chose white cabinets, and the pennisula\u2019s glaze helps it blend with them. \u00a0It has a lot of features I think you\u2019ll like.<\/h3>\n

For instance, I have shelves for my cookbooks. \u00a0And the cabinet door there holds our candles.<\/h3>\n

There is a shelf area with glass doors to display some of my Hall\u2019s teapots.<\/h3>\n

This is our eating area. \u00a0The cow? \u00a0She\u2019s \u201cLulubelle\u201d. \u00a0I ordered her from an artist named\u00a0Roz Art<\/a>\u00a0on Etsy. \u00a0She had me at\u00a0moo<\/del>\u00a0hello. \u00a0A local shop framed it for me, and she has been waiting patiently for this remodel project to finish so we could move in and she could claim her spot of honor in the kitchen.<\/h3>\n

Here is another shot. We used the same cabinet hardware in the kitchen, wet bar, laundry room, guest room built-in, and all of the bathrooms. \u00a0 (Sorry about the sun\u2019s reflection).<\/h3>\n

I\u2019ve opened the door so you can get a better look. \u00a0Some of the dishes are special, like my grandmother\u2019s flow blue, the meat platter I got when staying with some nomads in Mongolia, and our old iron stone, and other things are there because they are blue or white.<\/h3>\n

<\/h3>\n

That bottle on the right is an old Lestoil bottle from the 1950\u2032s. \u00a0My mother saved them because she thought they were pretty, and she gave me the blue ones. \u00a0They also came in gold and green. \u00a0The plate to the left was my grandmother\u2019s and the plate on top is the one I got from the nomads. \u00a0We had to use an interpreter to help us bargain, but when she served our meal on it, I knew it would be a great treasure.<\/h3>\n

I found that meat platter to match my grandmother\u2019s flow blue on ebay. \u00a0It is Princeton by Johnson Brothers. \u00a0There is the second Lestoil bottle.<\/h3>\n

A lamp maker here in Lexington made this lamp for me out of an extra silver tea pot. \u00a0I think it is so sweet.<\/h3>\n

I almost gave this tea\/coffee service to Jordan (my blogging partner Spring), but decided the silver would look nice against the marble. \u00a0I like a bit of silver in each room. \u00a0It is like jewelry.<\/h3>\n

My brother bought this hydrant at an auction years ago for $2.50. \u00a0That was before I had it refurbished. \u00a0Every time he sees it, he regrets that he gave it up. \u00a0I think the kitchen is the perfect place for a fire hydrant. \u00a0Don\u2019t you??!!??<\/h3>\n

This bench is very versatile. \u00a0I like to move it around, but it works here for now. \u00a0I bought the two silk floral pillows in Bangkok. \u00a0They are by Jim Thompson, who revived the silk industry in Thailand and then mysteriously disappeared. \u00a0The other two pillows were made by moi.<\/h3>\n

This is a view from the eating area out to our sun room,\u00a0(here)<\/a>\u00a0which was sunny that day.<\/h3>\n

When we decided to sell our last house, my friends gasped because they knew how much I\u00a0obsessed over\u00a0<\/del>enjoyed the six-burner Thermadore stove I had. \u00a0Well, luckily, I was able to get another, except this one has only four burners with a griddle. \u00a0It has gas burners with an electric oven and griddle. \u00a0L.O.V.E. it!<\/h3>\n

The Alessi tea kettle looks nice against the marble back splash. \u00a0I have boiled water in it for years, and it still looks new.<\/h3>\n

These are one of my favorite possessions. \u00a0They are Dutch cannisters I bought on our first bicycling trip in Holland\u00a0(here)<\/a>. \u00a0The antique shop only sold old enamel ware. \u00a0Unfortunately, I was on a bike.<\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Remember that wall I showed you in the beginning? \u00a0It is now gone, and we open to the great room. \u00a0This view looks into the kitchen from that room. \u00a0This opening made a huge difference with the amount of light the kitchen gets and with the flow. \u00a0The architect and I were in total agreement on this. \u00a0By the way, the kitchen color is Stucco by Sherwin Williams. \u00a0I really like it. \u00a0(You can see the dining area in the great room\u00a0here<\/a>\u00a0and see how I gave myself some kitchen privacy when entertaining here<\/a>.<\/h3>\n

This is another of my Jane Keltner rugs. \u00a0You\u2019ve seen three (pantry, sun room, and this one) now. \u00a0I think this one has been to the rug cleaners at least 10 times. \u00a0It was in front of the kitchen sink in our other house, too.<\/h3>\n

This is another cabinet area, but it hasn\u2019t grown up yet. \u00a0It\u2019s still waiting to be accessorized.<\/h3>\n

About 30 years ago, my mother tole painted a bread box for us out of a mail box. \u00a0Isn\u2019t that clever? \u00a0I just love it.<\/h3>\n

I am not really a fan of painted ceilings,\u00a0(here)<\/a>\u00a0but I saw a kitchen in a magazine with white cabinets, carrara marble counter tops, creamy walls, and a light blue ceiling. \u00a0I knew then our kitchen ceiling would be a soft blue. \u00a0We selected Iceberg by Sherwin Williams. \u00a0We really, really like it.<\/h3>\n

Here is a close-up of the sink. \u00a0It is by Kohler. \u00a0The blue wine bottle holds the dish detergent. \u00a0That was one of Martha Stewart\u2019s first \u201cgood things\u201d years ago.<\/h3>\n
