Greetings all! \u00a0Last week I showed you the dining room, breakfast room and kitchen area of the Old Governor’s Mansion (here<\/a>) that I visited with a friend.<\/h3>\n

<\/h3>\n

We’ll step into the parlor and sun porch today and maybe get a peak at the foyer.<\/h3>\n

Like the rest of the house, the parlor was perfect in every way.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/h3>\n

It was decorated for the period of the house.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/h3>\n

It had the largest and most beautiful live tree I have ever seen in a house.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/h3>\n

The ornaments were mostly natural with huge pine cones, dried orange slices, and adorable glass hazelnuts.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/h3>\n

It was exactly Jon Carloftis’ style.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/h3>\n

There were Kentucky touches everywhere.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/h3>\n

Adjacent to the formal parlor was the informal sun room.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/h3>\n

It was somewhat whimsical, compared to the rest of the house.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/h3>\n

Once upon a time, it was an open back porch but was enclosed.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/h3>\n

Did any of you decorate your garden wheel barrows?<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/h3>\n

Isn’t it cute? \u00a0It’s another example of Jon’s “More is more” philosophy.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/h3>\n

This marble-top bench is loaded. \u00a0(That purse in the background belonged to one of the docents).<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/h3>\n

This door concealed a powder room located in the corner.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/h3>\n

That room had its own equestrian touch. \u00a0I didn’t take a photo of the powder room floor that was covered in old wooden flooring that had once been in a Kentucky Derby winner’s stall.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/h3>\n

As we left, I took one more peak at the foyer. \u00a0The entire room was engulfed in a colorful mural that showed the state’s history. \u00a0I loved the small vases of white flowers going up the steps.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/h3>\n

Instead of a garland, Jon gathered bunches of greenery and tied them to the bannister. \u00a0Of course, he added embellishments.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/h3>\n

I couldn’t finish up without showing you this adorable arrangement made of old cheese graters. \u00a0Oddly, it was in one of the bedrooms. \u00a0I suppose they ran out of room in the kitchen.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/h3>\n

It would be so easy to make and look great (get it? \u00a0grate – great) with battery operated votives tucked inside of the graters.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/h3>\n

It’s made simply of a basket, greenery, and graters.<\/h3>\n

<\/h3>\n

Well, that’s it. \u00a0I hope you enjoyed the tour. \u00a0This mansion had T.H.E. \u00a0B.E.S.T. \u00a0B.A.T.H.R.O.O.M. I have ever seen. \u00a0It had a touch or two of Christmas, but I am going to tease you and tell you that I’ll do a post about it after the new year, sans Christmas decor.<\/h3>\n
