{"id":50,"date":"2011-01-28T08:57:28","date_gmt":"2011-01-28T15:57:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/?p=50"},"modified":"2011-03-01T11:57:47","modified_gmt":"2011-03-01T18:57:47","slug":"rice-rice-baby","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/?p=50","title":{"rendered":"Rice, Rice, Baby"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We have been in Laos for ten days now and have had our fair share of  rice:\u00a0 jasmine rice, steamed rice, sticky rice, chicken fried rice, pork  fried rice, shrimp fried rice, wild boar fried rice, and even rice soup  for breakfast.\u00a0 This overdose of rice started a great debate between  Jordan and me.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/images.quickblogcast.com\/4\/8\/2\/6\/7\/284967-276284\/Rice.jpg?a=3\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We  can pretty much agree on anything, and that has always been the case.\u00a0  But this particular issue is forcing us to agree to disagree.\u00a0 For us,  that is major.\u00a0 We just get along, plain and simple.\u00a0 So, what has the  potential to pull us apart, you ask? Well, it&#8217;s rice.\u00a0 That&#8217;s rice, I  mean right,.\u00a0 We both love it, but we disagree on how to cook it.\u00a0 I say  do it the old-fashioned way with a pan and water on the stove.\u00a0 But  Jordan is in favor of modern gadgets and opts for the rice cooker.\u00a0  Here&#8217;s her side:<\/p>\n<p><strong>PRO Rice Cooker<br \/>\nby Jordan (Spring)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/images.quickblogcast.com\/4\/8\/2\/6\/7\/284967-276284\/Ricecooker.jpg?a=22\" alt=\"\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong>One  of the greatest things I bought while living in Hawaii was a small  rice\u00a0cooker.\u00a0 For\u00a0part of a wedding present someone gave\u00a0us two entire  recipe books of just rice.\u00a0 Every recipe I have tried from those books  has been really good.\u00a0\u00a0I\u00a0have been using the cooker since 2006\u00a0 and  L.O.V.E. it.\u00a0 Every time I make rice, it comes out perfectly.\u00a0 It is  fluffy,\u00a0cooked just right\u00a0and doesn&#8217;t require me to stand by and keep it  from cooking over.\u00a0 Clean-up is easy, and I just store\u00a0the rice  cooker\u00a0on a shelf when it is not being used<\/p>\n<p><strong>CON Rice Cooker<br \/>\nby Janette (Autumn)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong>I  honestly don&#8217;t get it.\u00a0 Maybe this makes me appear to be an old  fuddy-duddy, but if you follow the directions on the package of rice, it  is good every time.\u00a0 Yes, I do agree that I have to baby-sit it while  it is cooking so that it doesn&#8217;t boil over, but at least I don&#8217;t have  another appliance to deal with.\u00a0 For the best bowl of rice, just put the  rice in a pan along with a double portion of cold water, add a touch of  salt, a pat of butter, put the lid on it and forget it.\u00a0 However, if  you happen to forget it before you turn down the heat for the simmer,  then you might have a mess on your hands and on your stove.\u00a0 But  otherwise, cooking rice in a pot is the way to go.<\/p>\n<p>What do you think?\u00a0 Rice cooker or pan on the stove?\u00a0 Let us know so we can settle our little debate.<\/p>\n<p><em>Images from google images.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We have been in Laos for ten days now and have had our fair share of rice:\u00a0 jasmine rice, steamed rice, sticky rice, chicken fried rice, pork fried rice, shrimp fried rice, wild boar fried rice, and even rice soup for breakfast.\u00a0 This overdose of rice started a great debate between Jordan and me.
