{"id":44492,"date":"2020-04-19T18:00:49","date_gmt":"2020-04-19T23:00:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/?p=44492"},"modified":"2020-04-17T12:44:04","modified_gmt":"2020-04-17T17:44:04","slug":"your-questions-answered","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/?p=44492","title":{"rendered":"Your Questions Answered"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A few weeks ago on Instagram, Jordan asked our followers to submit questions that we would answer here on the blog.\u00a0 We sometimes feel like an open book here, but at the same time, we try not to reveal too much of our private lives.\u00a0 We want you to feel close to you, but understand that there is also a fine line between over sharing, which we feel too many bloggers do, and keeping you all too far away.\u00a0 The questions were on a variety of topics and so, we will just go for it.\u00a0 First, let&#8217;s answer the questions that were submitted for me.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Why do you travel so much?<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-44499 size-shareaholic-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Paris-640x853.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"853\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Paris-640x853.jpg 640w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Paris-242x323.jpg 242w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Paris-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I grew up in a little town of 2,500 people, and my family took a one-week vacation in a car every year.\u00a0 My husband grew up on a 500 acre farm, and his family&#8217;s annual vacation was a week at a cottage in Michigan.\u00a0 We met during our junior year at college (on a bus), and in the first conversation that we had, he said he wanted to travel.\u00a0 That sounded good to me, but my idea of travel was very small and limited, based on my experience at that point.\u00a0 We were married in June after we finished our senior years, and that August we moved to Geneva, Switzerland to live while my husband played professional basketball there.\u00a0 That&#8217;s when the travel bug really hit us.\u00a0 We spent our free time visiting France (we spent our first New Year&#8217;s as a married couple in Paris,) Italy, and Germany.\u00a0 We have continued to travel and did so when we had young children.\u00a0 Thankfully, they both caught the travel bug and have spouses who also love travel.\u00a0 I have been to 83 countries so far, and my husband has been to over 100.\u00a0 I would rather spend money on experiences than on things.<\/p>\n<h2>How did you learn to DIY?<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-34736\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/IMG_4059-682x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Spring pillows in great room - The 2 Seasons\" width=\"640\" height=\"961\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/IMG_4059-682x1024.jpg 682w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/IMG_4059-215x323.jpg 215w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/IMG_4059-300x451.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>My mother was my inspiration.\u00a0 Even though she worked full time, she sewed all of my clothes, had a garden and canned and froze the produce, painted a room when it needed it, crocheted, painted as a hobby, and had a flower garden.\u00a0 I grew up thinking that if it needed to be done, than you did it yourself.\u00a0 Then in 1987 I discovered Martha Stewart.\u00a0 I saw the first show she made for PBS, and I was thrilled.\u00a0 My DIY skills are very basic, and I don&#8217;t try to do things beyond my skill set, but I try to do things myself, within reason.\u00a0 I can paint a room, sew things like pillow covers, shams, bed skirts, and curtains, and make simple crafts.\u00a0 I cannot do carpenter work or reupholster a chair.<\/p>\n<h2>What&#8217;s your favorite brand of paint?<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-29542\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/IMG_2964-e1448933914114-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Do's and Don'ts of painting - The 2 Seasons\" width=\"450\" height=\"1433\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMG_81961-322x1024.jpg 322w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMG_81961-101x323.jpg 101w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMG_81961-300x955.jpg 300w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMG_81961.jpg 572w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I get asked this all the time.\u00a0 The bottom line is I count my calories every day, and I get at least an hour of physical exercise six days a week plus I am moving all day long.\u00a0 Our house has three floors plus a finished basement, and that&#8217;s a lot of stairs. \u00a0 Some days, like the days we go bicycling, I might get four to eight hours of exercise.\u00a0 I also do my own house cleaning, sidewalk sweeping, window washing, ironing, etc.\u00a0 I truly believe this mantra:\u00a0 &#8220;Use it or lose it.&#8221;\u00a0 I think too many baby boomers have stopped moving, and their health and flexibility have suffered because of it.<\/p>\n<h2>What was your best day ever?<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-41926\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_4576-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Bike safety - The 2Seasons\" width=\"640\" height=\"853\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_4576-768x1024.jpg 768w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_4576-242x323.jpg 242w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_4576-300x400.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Of course, the day I was married, the day our children were born, and our children&#8217;s wedding days top the list.\u00a0 However, take them out of the equation, and my best day was the last day of my bicycle trip across the country.\u00a0 Mike and I spent seven weeks riding our bicycles across the northern part of the country from Astoira, OR to Portsmouth, NH when we were both 57 years old.\u00a0 I rode every single mile (we call that EFI in bicycle lingo.)\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t get off of my bike once to push it up a hill.\u00a0 On our last day, we rounded a corner, and when I saw the Atlantic Ocean, I burst into tears.\u00a0 I was so proud of myself.\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t grow up playing sports, so achieving that goal was just mind boggling to me.\u00a0 It still makes me smile.<\/p>\n<h2>What was your worst day ever?<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-41044\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Janette-and-Jordan-2-681x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Janette and Jordan - Getting that diagnosis from her surgeon was the worst news I have ever received.<\/p>\n<h2>How&#8217;s your New Year&#8217;s resolution coming along?<\/h2>\n<p>You might recall that my New Year&#8217;s resolution was to shop local.\u00a0 Until the shut-down, it was going very well.\u00a0 Unfortunately, since then I have had to rely on on-line shopping to keep us supplied with basics.\u00a0 Also, I have had to replace some major items recently (coffee maker, blender, electric tooth brush, and cast iron Dutch oven), and unfortunately, I wasn&#8217;t able to buy them locally.\u00a0 Once the lock down is lifted, I will continue shopping local, and I hope to make it part of my way of life.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*****<\/p>\n<p>Jordan here and I&#8217;ll answer some questions.<\/p>\n<h2>Do you have a job other than blogging?<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-28060\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/IMG_2165-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"853\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/IMG_2165-768x1024.jpg 768w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/IMG_2165-242x323.jpg 242w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/IMG_2165-300x400.jpg 300w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/IMG_2165-900x1200.jpg 900w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>While we do make some income blogging, I still consider it more of a hobby with my mom. We have fun with it, and we don&#8217;t do a lot of things other bloggers do that would make it more of a &#8220;job&#8221;.\u00a0 \u00a0While I get to do this fun hobby, I do actually work with my brother and father.\u00a0 I am keeping it in the family.\u00a0 I help in the area of brownfield redevelopment.\u00a0 I also have been teaching English to children in China for almost three years.\u00a0 I have always loved working with children, and I have so much fun teaching online without the headaches most teachers have to deal with in a typical classroom.<\/p>\n<h2>What are your children&#8217;s names?<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-43179\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/IMG_6315-e1572199942234-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"853\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/IMG_6315-e1572199942234-768x1024.jpg 768w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/IMG_6315-e1572199942234-242x323.jpg 242w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/IMG_6315-e1572199942234-300x400.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One thing I have decided to keep private is our children&#8217;s names.\u00a0 That is a personal decision, and maybe one day I&#8217;ll share them.\u00a0 I will share how we came up with their names.\u00a0 When we lived in Syracuse, NY, I volunteered as a chapter advisor at my sorority, Gamma Phi Beta.\u00a0 One of the sisters had a name I loved and said I was going to remember it for the future when we had children.\u00a0 Once we found out we were having a girl, we decided to name her the name I had learned about and loved.\u00a0 Little Miss named Google.\u00a0 Charles and I were struggling to come up with his name, and right before we went to Thailand last year, she mentioned a name.\u00a0 We both liked it, so that is how he got his name.\u00a0 Both our children have their Thai names as their middle names.<\/p>\n<h2>What are some recipes for a busy mom?<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-41586\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/IMG_E4060-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Cooking class - The 2 Seasons\" width=\"640\" height=\"853\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/IMG_E4060-768x1024.jpg 768w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/IMG_E4060-242x323.jpg 242w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/IMG_E4060-300x400.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p>While I love to cook, you can see my mom does the majority of the cooking on the blog.\u00a0 I try to sit down each Monday and meal plan for the week.\u00a0 I love my<a href=\"https:\/\/fave.co\/2yn2enR\"> Erin Condren<\/a> calendar where I have a section to write down each meal.\u00a0 I feel I go in waves of using certain cookbooks.\u00a0 I have been loving <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2Vd6cIX\">this cookbook<\/a> The recipes are easy and very tasty.\u00a0 It has recipes for the slow cooker, instant pot, sheet pan meals, Dutch oven, and air fryer.\u00a0 I also love to write notes in a cookbook after I make a recipe for future reference.\u00a0 \u00a0Before all of this, we did our best to have family dinners, and now we are also enjoying family lunches.<\/p>\n<h2>How is it really traveling with kids?<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-43682\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/IMG_0129-768x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"853\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/IMG_0129-768x1024.jpeg 768w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/IMG_0129-242x323.jpeg 242w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/IMG_0129-300x400.jpeg 300w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/IMG_0129.jpeg 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Traveling before kids was obviously a lot easier, but we knew that and made sure we had the right expectations when traveling with kiddos.\u00a0 We have learned we have to bring more luggage and move a little slower, but it is still amazing.\u00a0 I would never stop traveling because I have kids.\u00a0 We were hoping to do more traveling as a family this summer, but that right now is on hold.\u00a0 I also think because we have traveled a lot, especially with Little Miss, that it isn&#8217;t a big deal and is exciting.\u00a0 One of our favorite things to do when we travel with kids is to check out local playgrounds and the ice cream shops.\u00a0\u00a0 Little Miss has played with children from all around the world even though they don&#8217;t speak the same language.\u00a0 We are sure to mix in a variety of things to do, and she still talks about some of the trips we have taken.\u00a0 We can&#8217;t take Google out of the country until his adoption paperwork is complete by both governments.<\/p>\n<h2>Do you plan to adopt more children?<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-43178\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/IMG_6603-e1572199486545-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"853\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/IMG_6603-e1572199486545-768x1024.jpg 768w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/IMG_6603-e1572199486545-242x323.jpg 242w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/IMG_6603-e1572199486545-300x400.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>No, we feel our family is complete.<\/p>\n<h2>Will your Charlotte home be a long term home?<\/h2>\n<p>I hope so.
