Hello, everyone.\u00a0 We hope you had a good weekend.\u00a0 Ours was totally uneventful, which was glorious.\u00a0 We did go to a play, to mass, and to a movie, but other than that it was pretty routine.\u00a0 Today we are going to show you our dining room in winter and what I did to give it a cozy look for the season.<\/p>\n

As many of you know, we eat most of our evening meals in the dining room.\u00a0 We turn on the fireplace, light some candles, and listen to good music even on a Tuesday.\u00a0 It makes us feel like grown-ups.\u00a0 Ha!!!\u00a0 Since we are in there so much, I want it to be its best self.\u00a0 I decided to add some pillows to the two end chairs to soften the look of the table and to cozy it up.<\/p>\n

Lucky for me, there was some leftover linen fabric from the shower curtain I made for our guest bath.\u00a0 Go here <\/a>to see the shower curtain.\u00a0 Originally, I intended to use that fabric for a table cloth, but when I started that little project, I discovered that there wasn’t enough fabric.\u00a0 So, it was on to plan B.\u00a0 I made pillows instead, and put them in the dining room. The down pillow inserts were 22 inches, and you can buy them here.<\/a><\/p>\n

Normally when I make pillows, I use painters’ drop cloth fabric for the backs.\u00a0 However, since we would be able to see both the front and the back from the side angle, I used the same fabric for both sides.\u00a0 Just by adding pillows to the dining room chairs, the room looked cozier.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

As far as the centerpiece goes, I wanted something that I can easily move each evening before I set the table.\u00a0 That meant it need to be simple…….very simple.\u00a0 I pulled out a wooden bowl that I bought on a trip to Africa and filled it with moss balls.\u00a0 That’s all it needs.<\/p>\n

Fresh Flowers<\/h2>\n

Another thing I do in the winter is make sure there are live plants and flowers in the dining room.\u00a0 I have either fresh cut flowers or a flowering plant on this tea cart.\u00a0 This arrangement was a birthday gift, and it is still going strong.\u00a0 I replace the water daily, and I did have to replace two of the fading blooms.<\/p>\n

I have a large plant in front of a window, and this colorful one on the credenza.\u00a0 And do you see that little frame?\u00a0 I always have a seasonal post card in it.\u00a0 Right now it has a January 1 card from 1914.\u00a0 I love buying post cards when visiting art museums and frequently change out the card in this frame to suit the season, holiday, or my mood.\u00a0 I will replace the January 1 card with another winter postcard on Feb. 1.<\/p>\n

That’s all I do to for our dining room in winter.\u00a0 Easy, practical, and inviting.\u00a0 We hope this gave you some ideas for a winter look in your own dining rooms.<\/p>\n
