{"id":42640,"date":"2019-08-25T18:00:08","date_gmt":"2019-08-25T23:00:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/?p=42640"},"modified":"2019-08-25T14:29:30","modified_gmt":"2019-08-25T19:29:30","slug":"the-three-things-i-would-change-about-our-house","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/?p=42640","title":{"rendered":"Three Things I Would Change About Our House"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Three things I would change about our house is the topic of today&#8217;s blog post.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Well, we have been living in our house a year now.\u00a0 Actually, we spent the first two months &#8220;camping&#8221; on the third floor, and during that time, Mike was on a month long bicycling trip in Europe, and I traveled over there to meet him at the end.\u00a0 So, even though this has been our address for a year now, we did some &#8220;come and go living&#8221; here before the actual move-in day.\u00a0 People ask me all the time if there&#8217;s anything we would change after giving our house a year-long test drive, and the answer is yes.\u00a0 There are three things I would change about our house, and we are changing two of them as I type this.\u00a0 Two of the changes are in the dining room, and one is in the kitchen.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Dining Room<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-40719\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Townhouse-Dining-Room-1-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"Townhouse dining room - The 2 Seasons\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Townhouse-Dining-Room-1-1024x682.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Townhouse-Dining-Room-1-430x287.jpg 430w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Townhouse-Dining-Room-1-768x512.jpg 768w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Townhouse-Dining-Room-1-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This first change won&#8217;t be a surprise to you because I wrote about it <a href=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/2019\/08\/04\/changes-coming-to-the-dining-room\/\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/2019\/08\/18\/dining-room-shelves-update\/\">here<\/a>.\u00a0 After living here a year, I couldn&#8217;t go another month without doing something to spiff up the dining room fireplace area.\u00a0 We are adding shelves on both sides of the fireplace, and they have been ordered.<\/p>\n<p>When we first moved in, we thought about adding the shelves around the French doors that go into my husband&#8217;s office.\u00a0 Although shelves there would have looked nice and would have been functional, the fireplace wall would still have an unbalanced appearance due to the furniture arrangement we have going on right now.\u00a0 Adding shelves to the fireplace will give me the symmetry that I love.\u00a0 Plus, I will have a place to display things, and the cabinets will give us storage options for place mats, napkins, china, etc.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-40173\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/IMG_2669-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Townhouse fall mantel - The 2 Seasons\" width=\"640\" height=\"853\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/IMG_2669-768x1024.jpg 768w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/IMG_2669-242x323.jpg 242w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/IMG_2669-300x400.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">(<em>This is our dining room fireplace last fall.<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p>The second change in the dining room is happening this week.\u00a0 I am ordering gas logs for the fireplace.\u00a0 We didn&#8217;t think we would need gas logs in the fireplace because we had them in a dining room before and only used them once.\u00a0 However, that was in the family home in the suburbs, and we only used that dining room when entertaining, for holidays, and for special occasions.\u00a0 We eat most of our evening meals in the dining room in this house, and the fireplace logs will add ambience to our mealtime.\u00a0 I love the sound and feel of wood burning in the fireplace, but gas logs will give us the option to turn them on and then turn them off when we leave the room for the evening.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-40900\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/IMG_5235-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Townhouse dining room - The 2 Seasons\" width=\"640\" height=\"960\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_5322-e1551047948682-683x1024.jpg 683w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_5322-e1551047948682-215x323.jpg 215w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_5322-e1551047948682-768x1152.jpg 768w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_5322-e1551047948682-300x450.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I would add a navy blue cabinet panel to the front of the refrigerator.\u00a0 Our kitchen designer asked me if I wanted one when we were designing this kitchen, and I said I did not.\u00a0 I love our blue cabinets, and everything about them.\u00a0 I just think they would look even better with a navy door.\u00a0 My daughter-in-law planted that seed when she asked if we were going to put a panel on the door.\u00a0 That&#8217;s when I realized that I goofed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-41140\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_5315-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Townhouse kitchen - The 2 Seasons\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_5315-1024x683.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_5315-430x287.jpg 430w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_5315-768x512.jpg 768w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_5315-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Yes, we could make the change, but it would be a totally frivolous and wasteful thing to do.\u00a0 It would involve ordering a new panel-friendly door for the fridge, and asking the cabinet maker to build a door and then get an absolute paint match for the existing cabinets.\u00a0 It&#8217;s just not necessary.\u00a0 We do have a panel on the dishwasher, however.\u00a0 Just thought I would tell you that.<\/p>\n<p>And those are the three things I would change about our house.\u00a0 In the whole scheme of things, I think we did pretty well.\u00a0 They say you should live in a house for six months to a year before you do anything to it.\u00a0 While that sounds good and all, it would have been a major big deal hassle to do that.\u00a0 We basically rebuilt the house and just kept the exterior shell.\u00a0 It would have involved moving in, living here, and then moving out to do the remodel.\u00a0 I think we, along with our architect, did a great job making the changes on paper and then our builders made it happen.<\/p>\n<p>Are there any things about your home that you would change?\u00a0 Are you going to do it?\u00a0 You know what they say about hindsight&#8230;&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Take care.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Three things I would change about our house is the topic of today&#8217;s blog post.
