{"id":42045,"date":"2019-06-17T18:00:22","date_gmt":"2019-06-17T23:00:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/?p=42045"},"modified":"2019-06-17T15:24:14","modified_gmt":"2019-06-17T20:24:14","slug":"how-to-cozy-up-the-porch-for-summer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/?p=42045","title":{"rendered":"How to Cozy Up the Porch for Summer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you are lucky enough to have a porch, then I bet you are spending a lot of time on it about now.\u00a0 Our porch is really a breezeway that we enclosed when we remodeled our house before moving in last year. You can see some of that process <a href=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/2019\/04\/07\/breezeway-reveal\/\">here.<\/a>\u00a0 Ideally, the layout is not that great.\u00a0 We have to walk right through the sitting area to get to and from the garage.\u00a0 And instead of the French doors that I love, we had to install sliders because French doors would have interfered with furniture placement.\u00a0 Sliders don&#8217;t let in as much light, but they have screens so we can have a screened in back porch. That being said, I love our back porch.\u00a0 It is cozy, cool, and relaxing.\u00a0 It gives us a perfect view of our courtyard, which is almost ready for its close-up.\u00a0 Plus, we can hear the birds singing and watch them stop in for a drink from<a href=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/2019\/06\/16\/our-courtyard-fountain\/\"> the fountain<\/a>.\u00a0 I have added a few touches to &#8220;cozy up the porch for summer, and these are simple steps that anyone can do.\u00a0 Let&#8217;s take a look.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Love Seat<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-42060\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5641-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"porch - The 2 Seasons\" width=\"640\" height=\"960\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5641-683x1024.jpg 683w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5641-215x323.jpg 215w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5641-768x1152.jpg 768w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5641-300x450.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Almost everything on our porch is recycled from the sunroom in our last house.\u00a0 We only bought one new piece of furniture for our porch, and that was the love seat.\u00a0 The space is not large enough for a full size sofa.\u00a0 A love seat provides plenty of seating for just the two of us.\u00a0 I mean really&#8230;&#8230;how often do three people actually sit on a full size sofa?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-42062\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5643-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"porch - The 2 Seasons\" width=\"640\" height=\"960\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5643-683x1024.jpg 683w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5643-215x323.jpg 215w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5643-768x1152.jpg 768w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5643-300x450.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The love seat has Sunbrella fabric on the cushions so we don&#8217;t have to worry about spills and stains.<\/p>\n<h2>Mixed Styles<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-42064\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5645-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"porch - The 2 Seasons\" width=\"640\" height=\"960\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5645-683x1024.jpg 683w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5645-215x323.jpg 215w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5645-768x1152.jpg 768w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5645-300x450.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We also have a wicker chair that is a different color and style than the love seat.\u00a0 Just like indoors, it&#8217;s good to mix your furniture styles to get a more eclectic and inviting look.\u00a0 The chair is the same color as the cushions so they play well together.<\/p>\n<h2>Pillows<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-42054\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5627-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"porch - The 2 Seasons\" width=\"640\" height=\"960\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5627-683x1024.jpg 683w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5627-215x323.jpg 215w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5627-768x1152.jpg 768w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5627-300x450.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I am using pink and white gingham pillows to match the pink and white flowers that we planted in the courtyard.\u00a0 Then we added the floral pillows that have all the colors in nature.\u00a0 Using pillows like this is a nice way to tie the inside to the outside.<\/p>\n<h2>Lamps<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-42066\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5647-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"porch - The 2 Seasons\" width=\"640\" height=\"960\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5647-683x1024.jpg 683w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5647-215x323.jpg 215w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5647-768x1152.jpg 768w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5647-300x450.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now I realize that there is too much gingham when we pair the gingham lampshade with the gingham pillows, but the lamp shade was custom made.\u00a0 I&#8217;m just not ready to give it up yet.\u00a0 I had two of these lamps, that I made from old water bottles, in our last house, and I love them.\u00a0 Putting one on the porch to act as a reading light lets me enjoy them in this house.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-42057\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5633-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Porch - The 2 Seasons\" width=\"640\" height=\"960\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5637-683x1024.jpg 683w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5637-215x323.jpg 215w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5637-768x1152.jpg 768w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5637-300x450.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We have the room, so we are using some old pieces of furniture on our porch to team up with the love seat and chair.\u00a0 A vintage ice box fits perfectly in the corner.\u00a0 A trunk that was the first item we ever purchased as a married couple is an end table, and a step ladder is an end table on the other side of the love seat.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-41518\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_5410-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Twonhouse breezeway - The 2 Seasons\" width=\"640\" height=\"960\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_5410-683x1024.jpg 683w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_5410-215x323.jpg 215w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_5410-768x1152.jpg 768w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_5410-300x450.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We also have our French armoire on the porch.\u00a0 It&#8217;s there for two reasons:\u00a0 there wasn&#8217;t a spot for it in the house, and I didn&#8217;t want to get rid of it, and it holds out rain gear, some shoes, and boots. The furniture stays the same in all of the seasons, but we add different accessories for summer.\u00a0 This picture is from the spring.\u00a0 The porch looks so much better with the plants and accessories, doesn&#8217;t it?<\/p>\n<h2>Plants<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-42056\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5632-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"porch - The 2 Seasons\" width=\"750\" height=\"966\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5649-795x1024.jpg 795w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5649-251x323.jpg 251w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5649-768x989.jpg 768w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5649-300x386.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Rugs add coziness to a summer porch, and the rugs are the only other new thing in this space.\u00a0 I mentioned in another post that we had to go with dark rugs since this area gets so much foot traffic.\u00a0 We don&#8217;t wear our shoes in the house, but we have to walk through the porch to get to the <a href=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/2019\/01\/06\/mud-room-reveal-2\/\">mudroom <\/a>where our shoes come off.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-42067\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5640-628x1024.jpg\" alt=\"porch - The 2 Seasons\" width=\"640\" height=\"960\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_5411-683x1024.jpg 683w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_5411-215x323.jpg 215w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_5411-768x1152.jpg 768w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_5411-300x450.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One anchors the sitting area, and a runner serves as a door mat.\u00a0 I really like the look of bright rugs on a porch so much more, but practicality had to win out here.\u00a0 These rugs also help cover up the brick which was damaged during the remodeling.\u00a0 We are still trying to figure out what to do with it.<\/p>\n<h2>Mirror<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-42061\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5642-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"porch - The 2 Seasons\" width=\"640\" height=\"960\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5642-683x1024.jpg 683w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5642-215x323.jpg 215w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5642-768x1152.jpg 768w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5642-300x450.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A mirror is so nice to have on a back porch because it will reflect the outside and even make a dark spot brighter.\u00a0 I found this mirror at my favorite consignment shop, and we just hung it this past weekend.\u00a0 The wrought iron is similar to the wrought iron on our courtyard furniture so it&#8217;s a good way to have the two spaces play together.<\/p>\n<h2>Accessories<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-42055\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5628-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"porch - the 2 Seasons\" width=\"640\" height=\"960\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5628-683x1024.jpg 683w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5628-215x323.jpg 215w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5628-768x1152.jpg 768w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/IMG_5628-300x450.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Any type of summer accessories will work on a back porch if they can handle the weather.\u00a0 If rain blows onto your porch, then that&#8217;s a consideration when selecting accessories.\u00a0 I have just a few accessories since the plants take up most of the display space.\u00a0 An original water color of summery flowers is the best accent piece that we have.<\/p>\n<h2>Porch Ceiling Fans<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-42069\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/How-to-Add-the-Cozy-Factor-to-Your-Porch-for-Summer-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Porch -
