Without even trying or actually realizing it, I have turned our laundry routine into an almost organic process.\u00a0 Actually, it would be totally organic if I didn’t add a tablespoon of detergent to each load of laundry.\u00a0 That’s right.\u00a0 I add just one tablespoon of liquid detergent in order to have the fragrance in our clothes.\u00a0 I could totally eliminate this step, but I love the smell of freshly washed clothes.\u00a0 We took two simple steps to make it all possible, and you can do it, too.<\/p>\n

Step 1<\/h2>\n

First off, we bought a\u00a0 pureWash by Greentech.<\/a>\u00a0 You can buy one here<\/a>.\u00a0 This little device<\/a> eliminates the need for detergent when doing laundry.\u00a0 I know.\u00a0 It sounds crazy, but it’s true.\u00a0 Mike first learned about this pureWash machine<\/a> in California from a hotel owner.\u00a0 It seems that lots of hotels use them for three reasons:\u00a0 it eliminates the need for detergent; it works with only cold water; and it is organic.<\/p>\n

It is easy to install.\u00a0 Ours is on the wall over the washing machine in our laundry room.<\/p>\n

I must tell you that I was very leery at first.\u00a0 This was totally Mike’s idea, and I went along with it but unwillingly.\u00a0 After just a week of using it, I was hooked.\u00a0 Now, I do have to treat stains, but that’s all.\u00a0 If you want a safer way to do laundry, then you might want to look into it.<\/p>\n

The next step was somewhat easier.\u00a0 We bought these organic wool dryer balls<\/a> for the dryer.\u00a0 They replaced the dryer sheets that we have used for years.\u00a0 Again, I was somewhat skeptical, but after reading rave reports from other bloggers, I took the plunge.\u00a0 These dryer balls are wonderful.\u00a0 I don’t know how they work, but the fact is that they do work.\u00a0 My clothes come out of the dryer fluffy and static free.\u00a0 You can buy them here.<\/a><\/p>\n

So, if you are trying to make your home more “user friendly” and chemical free, these are two easy steps to take to get the process started.\u00a0 After all, there are clothes against our skin all day and all night.\u00a0 Skin is our largest organ, so we should take serious steps to protect it.<\/p>\n
