Reveal"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><em>Author: \u00a0Autumn<\/em><\/h3>\n<h3>I have always thought that courtyards were somewhat romantic and traditional. \u00a0They reminded me of those mysterious little spaces tucked behind a beautiful big doorway in Paris. \u00a0I have often thought it would be fun to have one, never thinking that it would actually become a reality. \u00a0Since my blog partner and daughter revealed their new lawn last week, I am happy to reveal our empty-nester courtyard this week.<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/2011\/08\/07\/courtyard-reveal\/dscf1893\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4089\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-4089\" in the park across from our place.<\/h3>\n<h3>One of the great features of our new townhouse is the brick courtyard that came with it. \u00a0With a beautiful, historic park located right across the street, we can easily go play in the grass whenever the mood strikes. \u00a0The courtyard gives us the option of having an outdoor space without the maintenance that goes with a having a lawn. \u00a0Been there, done that.<\/h3>\n<h3>Our courtyard space hadn&#8217;t seen any love from the previous owner for several years. \u00a0We bought the place in January, and it looked pretty gloomy.<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/2011\/08\/07\/courtyard-reveal\/dscf1538\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4085\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" leaves came out and before we cleaned and replaced the bricks&#8217; mortar.<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/2011\/08\/07\/courtyard-reveal\/dscf1904\/\" was a breezeway leading from the living area to the garage. \u00a0This photo was taken during the demo stage, and we were storing things in that area.<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/2011\/08\/07\/courtyard-reveal\/dscf1903\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4088\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-4088\" wanted to convert the breezeway into a mud room, and he drew up the plans for it. \u00a0One of our workers is taking a break.<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/2011\/08\/07\/courtyard-reveal\/img_0740\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4092\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-4092\" 430px) 100vw, 430px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\">We have created a border using small boxwoods, which we will keep small. \u00a0Next summer we will fill in the area behind them with something taller. \u00a0I want it to resemble a little Dutch garden that I see so often when bicycling there.<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/2011\/08\/07\/courtyard-reveal\/img_0748\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4097\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-4097\" 430px) 100vw, 430px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\">We used these wrought iron planters as window boxes at our last house. \u00a0There were some nails already in the brick wall, and I just hung them here. \u00a0It is a perfect place for them, but I don&#8217;t think the impatiens get enough light.<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/2011\/08\/07\/courtyard-reveal\/img_0749\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4098\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-4098\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/IMG_0749-430x286.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"430\" height=\"286\" 430px) 100vw, 430px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\">Our espaliered apple tree is struggling. \u00a0It has been neglected, and I am hoping to save it. \u00a0I fed it well in the spring and have made sure it gets plenty of water, but I am not sure the space is ideal for it.<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/2011\/08\/07\/courtyard-reveal\/img_0741\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4094\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-4094\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/IMG_0741-430x286.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"430\" height=\"286\" 430px) 100vw, 430px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\">I have room for an herb garden, and ironically, they grow better here than any of my herbs did at our last house. \u00a0It is important to use the vertical spaces, as well, so I planted a climbing rose here beside the trellis.<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/2011\/08\/07\/courtyard-reveal\/img_0742\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4095\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-4095\" 430px) 100vw, 430px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\">We bordered the herb garden with boxwoods, also.<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a
