Grease and flour one 9x13 inch pan. Mix together the flour, baking powder and salt; set aside.\r<\/li><li id=\"yrecipe-instruction-1\" class=\"instruction\" itemprop=\"recipeInstructions\">    In a large bowl, cream sugar and shortening until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating thoroughly after each addition. Add flour mixture alternately with milk, beating just to combine. Finally, stir in vanilla. Pour batter into the prepared pan.\r<\/li><li id=\"yrecipe-instruction-2\" class=\"instruction\" itemprop=\"recipeInstructions\">    Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 40 to 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the cake comes out clean. Frost and enjoy.\r<\/li><li id=\"yrecipe-instruction-3\" class=\"instruction\" itemprop=\"recipeInstructions\">Note - I baked the batter in two eight-inch round cake pans for about 28 to 30 minutes.\r<\/li><li id=\"yrecipe-instruction-4\" class=\"instruction\" itemprop=\"recipeInstructions\">FROSTING\r<\/li><li id=\"yrecipe-instruction-5\" class=\"instruction\" itemprop=\"recipeInstructions\">Place sugar, cream of tartar or corn syrup, salt, water, and egg whites in the top of a double boiler. Beat with a handheld electric mixer for 1 minute. Place pan over boiling water, being sure that boiling water does not touch the bottom of the top pan. (If this happens, it could cause your frosting to become grainy). Beat constantly on high speed with electric mixer for 7 minutes. Beat in vanilla.
