Note to subscribers – Due to a power outage at our house yesterday, the blog post didn’t get posted in time to make the 3:00 a.m. deadline.\u00a0 Therefore, you will probably have two posts in today’s mailing – The Marathon and Our Fall Mantel.

You don’t know how happy it makes me to show you our fall mantel.\u00a0 Yes, it is a little late, but we celebrate fall till the very last day of November which gives us plenty of time to enjoy it.\u00a0 We have two fireplaces at our new house, and this one is in the dining room.\u00a0 I showed you how we updated it in this post<\/a>.\u00a0 We had planned to make this a dining room\/library, but once the furniture arrived, we decided a dining room with a place for sitting and relaxing was the best use of the space.\u00a0 Mike and I intend to eat our evening meals in here since we don’t have a table in the kitchen.\u00a0 Now that we are grown-ups, it seems like a fun thing to do.<\/p>\n

Everything on the mantel, except the candles, was used in a different way in our last house.<\/p>\n

\"Townhouse<\/p>\n

The candle holders, which you can buy here<\/a>, were a Christmas gift last year, and since we were moving, I just kept them in their box until we unpacked them here.\u00a0 You can buy similar battery operated flicker candles here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

We have had the two framed dried plants for several years.\u00a0 They were new but made to look old when we purchased them.<\/p>\n

I love the character they add to the mantel.<\/p>\n

Although the mantel display isn’t symmetrical, it is balanced and is very pleasing to look at.<\/p>\n

We bought these little opera binoculars in Estonia back in the 90’s, and I love the contrast of the mother of pearl with the rustic basket.<\/p>\n

You might remember this chair from our family room in our last house, and now it will live here in the dining room.\u00a0 It will be my quiet spot to sit and read or enjoy a cup of tea.<\/p>\n

I still have not unpacked my good blog camera, and it shows.\u00a0 I promise to get that thing unpacked, charged up, and to start using it.#badblogger<\/p>\n
