Hello, friends.\u00a0 A few years ago I studied the New York of Art and Design online course and really enjoyed the class.\u00a0 Once the classwork is completed, the students can apply for the\u00a0Residential Interior Design Qualification Certification, RIDQC.\u00a0 I took the class more for myself than for a career.\u00a0 I wanted to learn\u00a0 more about decorating.\u00a0 I thought that since I do not have a ton of projects going on right now, I should share with you some fun things I learned during the course.\u00a0 We learned about the famous Dorothy Draper and her design choices.\u00a0 She is best known for decorating the five star Greenbrier\u00a0<\/a> resort in West Virginia.\u00a0 She used some decorating techniques that I thought would be fun to share. Even though she is dead, her design techniques are still fresh.\u00a0 A lot of these tips came from one of her books, Decorating is Fun! How To Be Your Own Decorator.<\/a><\/p>\n

Tip 1<\/h2>\n

Customize a room to make your room feel as it is your own with your own expression and personality.<\/p>\n

Make a room feel adventuresome and not grim and serious.\u00a0 She believed there wasn’t any rule that couldn’t be broken.<\/p>\n

Tip 3<\/h2>\n

Turn up the heat.\u00a0 Get creative and have the courage to go against the stereotypes and try out your own thing.\u00a0 Don’t follow design\u00a0trends.<\/p>\n

Tip 4<\/h2>\n

Be bold with color.\u00a0 The drab age is over.\u00a0 She said colors need to be honest, fresh, and clear.<\/p>\n

Tip 5<\/h2>\n

Simplify and streamline rooms.\u00a0 Get rid of the knick knacks. Each room should celebrate simplicity.<\/p>\n

Pay attention to the decorating details.\u00a0 A lampshade can make or break a room.\u00a0 Consider all those details.<\/p>\n

A room must have comfort and be livable<\/p>\n

A room needs to be balanced.\u00a0 If it is not balanced it will be uneasy.<\/p>\n

Don’t forget the ceiling.\u00a0 Dorothy Draper considered it the fifth wall.<\/p>\n

Decorating is sheer fun.\u00a0 Don’t be too serious.<\/p>\n
