{"id":39650,"date":"2018-08-14T16:37:14","date_gmt":"2018-08-14T21:37:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/?p=39650"},"modified":"2018-08-14T16:37:14","modified_gmt":"2018-08-14T21:37:14","slug":"more-home-conveniences-part-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/?p=39650","title":{"rendered":"More Home Upgrades"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This more home upgrades post is actually part two of <a href=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/2018\/08\/05\/upgrade-your-home-with-these-conveniences\/\">this post<\/a> that we shared with you last week.\u00a0 After I wrote that post, I kept seeing things and thinking, &#8220;Oh, I should have mentioned that.&#8221; Well, I came up with enough additional conveniences to add to your existing home, that we decided to publish another post about them.\u00a0 Now remember, most of these convenient upgrades can be added without too much hassle.\u00a0 Although you might have to call in a professional to do the installation, there won&#8217;t be a huge mess to deal with or a huge expense.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Drop-Down Ironing Board<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-34172\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/IMG_3894-682x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Laundry tips - The 2 Seasons\" width=\"640\" height=\"961\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/IMG_3894-682x1024.jpg 682w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/IMG_3894-215x323.jpg 215w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/IMG_3894-300x451.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the first home upgrade we have for you.\u00a0 Just like in our last house, we added a drop-down ironing board to our new laundry room. here.\u00a0 Our laundry room was created by stealing space from two bathrooms,\u00a0 It is small but very efficient, and the drop-down ironing board makes it even work better.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t need to find a place to iron, and I don&#8217;t need to have a space to store a bulky ironing board.\u00a0 It is installed between studs in the wall.\u00a0 If you are interested in having one in your home, your electrician should be able to do it all.\u00a0 Our electricians did the wiring, cut out the drywall and fit the ironing board into the wall.\u00a0 Then our carpenters just added some quarter round trim to make it all look neater.\u00a0 We bought a Nutone brand, and you can buy the same one we bought right<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B072HMDHSG\/ref=as_li_qf_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=the2sea-20&amp;creative=9325&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;creativeASIN=B072HMDHSG&amp;linkId=adb7a7fee2ca7eb7a90996419bcfdee2\"> here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>Rod in Laundry Room for Hanging Clothes<\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-34169\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/IMG_3890-682x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Laundry tips - The 2 Seasons\" width=\"640\" height=\"961\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/IMG_3890-682x1024.jpg 682w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/IMG_3890-215x323.jpg 215w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/IMG_3890-300x451.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/h2>\n<p>Here&#8217;s another upgrade for your laundry room.\u00a0 Simply mount a sturdy rod that reaches from one wall to another to hang your wet clothes that don&#8217;t go in the dryer and to hang the clothes you just ironed.\u00a0 The man who is customizing our closets will be hanging the rod in this house, but my husband did it in our last place.\u00a0 Every one of our laundry rooms have had this convenience, and it just makes life easier.<\/p>\n<h2>Solar Tube<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-22180\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/IMG_53041-1024x812.jpg\" alt=\"Upstairs hallway lit by solar tube - The 2 Seasons\" width=\"640\" height=\"964\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Screen-Shot-2018-01-17-at-1.52.05-PM.png 360w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Screen-Shot-2018-01-17-at-1.52.05-PM-215x323.png 215w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Screen-Shot-2018-01-17-at-1.52.05-PM-300x452.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">(Windowless bath in our last house.\u00a0 The larger circle in the photo is the solar tube.)<\/p>\n<p>We had three in our last house, and this house already has three.\u00a0 In our last house, we installed tubes in two bathrooms that didn&#8217;t have a window and another one at the top of the stairs to brighten the upstairs hallway.\u00a0 In this house, we installed one in a bathroom that doesn&#8217;t have a window, one at the top of the third floor stairs, and one at the top of the main stairway.\u00a0 And here&#8217;s the thing&#8230;..these new ones have solar lights in them, and when it gets dark, they become night lights.\u00a0 Solar tubes are around $700.00 each, but one man installs them, and it takes a few hours to install each one.\u00a0 Installation creates very little mess, and whatever dirt there is gets cleaned up before the man leaves.\u00a0 Just google solar tubes where ever you live, and that&#8217;s how you will find your guy.\u00a0 The brand we have is Solatube, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.solatube.com\/\">their website<\/a> will even help you find a dealer in your area.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Mail Slot Trap Door<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-39714\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/IMG_2067-1001x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"850\" height=\"870\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/IMG_2067-1001x1024.jpg 1001w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/IMG_2067-316x323.jpg 316w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/IMG_2067-768x786.jpg 768w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/IMG_2067-300x307.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This home upgrade is a little more complicated, but a DIYer could still do it.\u00a0 Since we live in town, and the mail is brought right to our door, we have a mail slot.\u00a0 In out last house, we had a mail slot in the door, but we felt that cold air could work its way through the small opening in the winter.\u00a0 So, my husband decided to put a mail slot trap door into this house like some of our neighbors have.\u00a0 Rather than have the slot in the door, it is on the side of the entry.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-39715\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/IMG_2068-576x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Twonhouse upgrades - The 2 Seasons\" width=\"640\" height=\"853\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/IMG_2032-e1534281781421-768x1024.jpg 768w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/IMG_2032-e1534281781421-242x323.jpg 242w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/IMG_2032-e1534281781421-300x400.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/h2>\n<h2>Cedar Closet<\/h2>\n<p>We had a row of closets added to a blank wall in our basement, and we are turning one of them into a cedar closet for off season clothing.\u00a0 Again, like so many of these home upgrades, we have had a cedar closet in each of our homes over the years.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t even know if cedar closets are necessary anymore, but it&#8217;s an old-fashioned touch that I like.\u00a0 We store our cashmere sweaters, wool clothes, and winter coats in our cedar closet.\u00a0 To make one, we simply bought two bundles of\u00a0 pre-packaged cedar at Lowe&#8217;s and had a carpenter install it.
