{"id":38912,"date":"2018-05-22T17:17:38","date_gmt":"2018-05-22T22:17:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/?p=38912"},"modified":"2018-05-23T06:51:08","modified_gmt":"2018-05-23T11:51:08","slug":"traveling-with-toddler","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/?p=38912","title":{"rendered":"Traveling with Toddlers"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Seeing the World<\/h2>\n<p>Before we were parents, we were told many times that having children means we won&#8217;t travel as much.\u00a0 Do we travel as much?\u00a0 Maybe not, but we do still travel.\u00a0 Yankee and I talked about this a lot before Little Miss came home.\u00a0 Travel is a passion of ours, and as parents we want to show our children the world.\u00a0 We live in a wonderful home in a wonderful city, but there is so much out in the world to see and do.\u00a0 Travel helps opens your eyes.\u00a0 We wanted to do our best to show her as much as possible. Here are some of our tips and tricks for traveling with toddlers.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Mindset<\/h2>\n<p>First of all, when traveling with toddlers,\u00a0 you have to go in with a different mindset.\u00a0 Yankee and I used to travel without checking a bag.\u00a0 We loaded up our little backpacks, and that&#8217;s all we took on trips that lasted two weeks plus.\u00a0\u00a0 We never had to wait on luggage in an airport.\u00a0 We would just go.\u00a0 We knew that having a child with us meant we would have to travel with more baggage, and we just had to accept it.\u00a0 We spend more time now waiting on luggage and car seats, but we expected it going in, so it isn&#8217;t a big deal.\u00a0 Your child will mirror your attitude when traveling, so it&#8217;s important to stay calm, and let life just happen even when there are unexpected surprises.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-38365\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Nicaragua-4-631x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Nicaragua - The 2 Seasons\" width=\"580\" height=\"942\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Nicaragua-4-631x1024.jpg 631w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Nicaragua-4-199x323.jpg 199w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Nicaragua-4-768x1247.jpg 768w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Nicaragua-4-300x487.jpg 300w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Nicaragua-4.jpg 1678w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Practice<\/h2>\n<p>We go over every upcoming event with Little Miss so she will know what to expect.\u00a0 For instance, before she went to the dentist for the first time, we had her lie back in a chair, we turned a big light on and pointed it toward her mouth, and we checked her teeth.\u00a0 She knew exactly what to expect when she went for her first dental visit and loved it.\u00a0 You can do the same thing with traveling, just like we do.\u00a0 If you will be going on a plane for the first time, talk about it, and practice what it will be like.\u00a0 Talk about security and putting things on the belt and going through the scanner.\u00a0 Let children know it will be busy, but it is part of the adventure.\u00a0 Talk about the plane and how things will go.\u00a0 Little Miss now asks what type of plane we will be flying.\u00a0 I am horrible on my plane knowledge so this one I default to Yankee.\u00a0 We as adults know what to expect on a flight but for little ones it is new.\u00a0 Turn them into good flyers and travelers.\u00a0 One funny story on our flight into Nicaragua&#8230;. It was pretty bumpy.\u00a0 The person in the seat in front of us was getting sick from the turbulence.\u00a0 While I am not a fan of the turbulence, I was not going to let Little Miss catch on.\u00a0 She was laughing and thinking it was a blast.\u00a0 Her excitement\u00a0even got others smiling and laughing around us.\u00a0 Well not the girl in front.\u00a0 Poor thing.\u00a0 Also, your child might get sick so have those bags ready for the car and plane along with extra wipes and not only a change of clothes for your child but for you in case they get sick on you.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-38922\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/IMG_9302-e1525803817345-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"853\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/IMG_9302-e1525803817345-768x1024.jpg 768w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/IMG_9302-e1525803817345-242x323.jpg 242w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/IMG_9302-e1525803817345-300x400.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Age<\/h2>\n<p>What age is a good age to introduce your child to travel?\u00a0 Personally, I think the younger the better.\u00a0 Get your children in the habit of traveling whether it is a long car ride to grandma&#8217;s house or a flight across the country.\u00a0 We didn&#8217;t get Little Miss till she was 19 months old, and we jumped right into travel.\u00a0 We hired a driver and took her on a four-hour trip to the beach right away.\u00a0 We met her in Thailand, and it was important to us to get her out of Bangkok and to a quieter and calmer environment so we could continue bonding.\u00a0 Shortly after that, we had to board a plane for a 24 hour plus trip home.\u00a0 She was introduced to travel out of necessity, but since then she has been to several states, a few countries, and on a cruise.\u00a0 Now she doesn&#8217;t think anything of it.\u00a0 She just does it.\u00a0 She gets her suitcase and helps pack.\u00a0 It is amazing the things she remembers from our trips.\u00a0 Will she remember it all?\u00a0 No, but when we are home, we do activities and outings even though she won&#8217;t remember it all.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-38923\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/IMG_E9306-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"853\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/IMG_E9306-768x1024.jpg 768w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/IMG_E9306-242x323.jpg 242w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/IMG_E9306-300x400.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/h3>\n<h2>Comforts<\/h2>\n<p>Bring some comforts from home for travel.\u00a0 I know. I know.\u00a0 You might see the picture and see she is sleeping on the floor.\u00a0 Well I have had my fair share of naps on an airport floor and survived the dirt to tell about it. Here Little Miss was able to take a nap because she had some comforts such as her blankie, a favorite stuffed animal, and a travel pillow.\u00a0 \u00a0We even travel with our sound machine .\u00a0 We figure it is something similar that will remind her of home since we play babbling brook for her every night.\u00a0 We joke Little Miss will be taking the sound machine to college!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-38915\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/DSC00833-e1525735688392-681x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"963\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/DSC00833-e1525735688392-681x1024.jpg 681w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/DSC00833-e1525735688392-215x323.jpg 215w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/DSC00833-e1525735688392-768x1155.jpg 768w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/DSC00833-e1525735688392-300x451.jpg 300w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/DSC00833-e1525735688392.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Fun Activities<\/h2>\n<p>Traveling also means there might be some down time before arriving at your destination.\u00a0 We are not big on tablets at home, but we do have one we bring out for travel so that it is a special treat.\u00a0\u00a0 Little Miss is allowed to use her <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2jG1xLT\">Amazon Fire<\/a> to watch some shows and or play some games.\u00a0 She knows not to ask for it at home and knows it is a perk for travel.\u00a0 I also bring along other packable activities that she doesn&#8217;t play with at home so it is still something fun and exciting to her.\u00a0 These <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2wndCim\">Wikki Sticks<\/a> are amazing.\u00a0 She loves playing with them. They are sticky but do not leave a residue.\u00a0 I actually bought <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2ruP3uQ\">this book<\/a>, and she makes the designs with the Wikki Sticks and not the tape that came with the book.\u00a0 A child&#8217;s camera is also something we love to take with us on a trip.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-36011\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/IMG_8914-632x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Little Miss - the 2 Seasons\" width=\"632\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/IMG_8914-632x1024.jpg 632w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/IMG_8914-199x323.jpg 199w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/IMG_8914-300x486.jpg 300w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/IMG_8914.jpg 1800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 632px) 100vw, 632px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Our little ones see us take pictures, and they want to be part of the action.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2ruv66O\">This camera<\/a> is easy to hold ,and Little Miss understands it more than I do.\u00a0 Haha!!!\u00a0 She can go back and find pictures, and we can even download them.\u00a0 It is fun to see what your child see&#8217;s through their eyes.<\/p>\n<h2>Have Fun<\/h2>\n<p>Remember at the end of the day a trip is supposed to be fun.\u00a0 Will everything go as planned? No.\u00a0 Will there be days when you are tired?
