When we moved into our new digs, we had a basement that was more like a dungeon. \u00a0It was so bad that I did not even think to take photos of it. \u00a0I am sure you can imagine it, though. \u00a0It had a washer and dryer sitting beside a concrete block wall, a leaking basement window, aging furnace, decrepit shelves, and a cracked concrete floor.<\/h3>\n

Lucky for me, when we gutted and remodeled our place, we included the basement. \u00a0In a nutshell, we divided the room so that there would be a service area for the furnace, central vac unit, water softener, A\/C system, and storage. \u00a0In the second area we built a closet for luggage storage, added a full bath, and a rec room where we are putting our Murphy bed. \u00a0And here is the clincher. \u00a0I told the architect I would like \u00a0a craft room tucked into the far corner. \u00a0It is tiny and perfect. \u00a0Take a look.<\/h3>\n

We recycled a glass door from the remodeling to use here. \u00a0With the addition of this door, the craft room doesn’t feel claustrophobic.<\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

To the right of the entry door, we added a cedar closet for storing our out-of-season clothing. \u00a0It is a great way to free up space in our bedroom closets. \u00a0Here the double doors are open so you can see it. \u00a0I took the photo before the clothes were hung.<\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

When the doors are closed, I don’t even know it is there. \u00a0This is to the right of my work area. \u00a0You can see we still need to do some things, like add a plate to that light switch.<\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

It has a nice L-shaped counter top. \u00a0I selected a simple beige laminate that blends well with the floor and walls. \u00a0The wall color, by the way, is Creamy, by Sherwin Williams. \u00a0We used it on all of the walls and ceilings in the basement.<\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\u00a0The floor is a practical choice that we also put on our garage floor. \u00a0It can handle dampness and mac trucks. \u00a0It looks like terrazzo. \u00a0We have had water damage in all of the basements we have ever had, but hopefully this one will remain dry.<\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

We put an opening in the counter top to accommodate the cords. \u00a0This area is for the sewing machine, as you can see, and the area to the right is for gift wrapping, cutting, pasting, decoupaging, painting, etc. \u00a0Whatever needs to be done in a craft room can be done here. \u00a0It also means I won’t get smears and stains on our carrara marble counters in the kitchen from doing paint and glue projects.<\/h3>\n

We installed a peg board so that all of the scissors, tape, thread, rulers, that get lost in a drawer will be easily accessible.<\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I have plenty of storage in both overhead cabinets and under-counter cabinets. \u00a0These cabinets were recycled from the former owner’s pantry. \u00a0If you missed our pantry reveal go here<\/a>. \u00a0The area between the cabinets and countertop will get a cork bulletin board.<\/h3>\n

I have decided to paint these doors with chalk board paint. \u00a0They are nice and flat and will be a great place for me to make lists. \u00a0I have sanded them down already and plan to tackle the project this week. \u00a0Then I will change the pulls to match the ones we have throughout our house.<\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I have great storage under the counters, also. \u00a0There will be no excuse to have a junky room. \u00a0So, now that the room is ready, it’s time to unpack my boxes and put it to use.<\/h3>\n
