{"id":38132,"date":"2018-02-19T19:00:05","date_gmt":"2018-02-20T00:00:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/?p=38132"},"modified":"2018-02-17T19:22:46","modified_gmt":"2018-02-18T00:22:46","slug":"the-new-kitchens-back-splash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/?p=38132","title":{"rendered":"The New Kitchen&#8217;s Back Splash"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So far I have had two really good and productive meetings with our kitchen planner.\u00a0 You might have seen <a href=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/2018\/02\/11\/kitchen-inspiration\/\">this pos<\/a>t about my plans to have a navy blue island.\u00a0 Well, that plan has been changed.\u00a0 There will be an island and quite a large one, at that, but it will not be navy.\u00a0 However, there will be a navy cabinet in the room, but I am not going to tell you right now where or what it will be.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll leave that for another day because today I want to talk about something else &#8211; the new kitchen&#8217;s back splash.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not sure which materials or pattern to select for the back splash.\u00a0 Rather than having a natural Carrara marble counter top in the new kitchen, I am going to go with something man-made.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t get me wrong.\u00a0 I have loved the look of the honed marble in our current kitchen, but it has been more high maintenance than I\u00a0 want.\u00a0 I wrote in <a href=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/2018\/01\/21\/things-i-wont-put-in-our-new-place\/\">this post<\/a> about how I want to not be as careful in our new place.\u00a0 I want to know that I can put down a glass, slice a tomato, spill some orange juice, drop some red wine, and it will not cause imperfections which are called etching in the marble world. \u00a0 That&#8217;s why I&#8217;m going with a quartz or similar product in our new place.\u00a0 That decision is made, but I am not sure about the back splash material or pattern.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-38134\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Screen-Shot-2018-02-16-at-8.28.30-PM.png\" alt=\"Screen shot from Stonecroft Homes\" width=\"750\" height=\"683\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Screen-Shot-2018-02-16-at-8.28.30-PM.png 594w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Screen-Shot-2018-02-16-at-8.28.30-PM-355x323.png 355w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Screen-Shot-2018-02-16-at-8.28.30-PM-300x273.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/zuU2-8DYcd\/\">source<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>If I use subway tiles they will be hung in a pattern.\u00a0 I like the look of subway tile and feel that it is truly timeless.\u00a0 After all, it has been in subways for many, many decades, and Jordan reminded me that it was in the kitchen in the movie, <em>Rosemary&#8217;s Baby<\/em>.\u00a0 It definitely has staying power, but it has been used a lot. I like this herringbone pattern, but has it been overused?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-38135\" advantages of using subway tile is that there are so many ways to hang it like this offset joint pattern.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" don&#8217;t want to over think this decision, but since we will be living with it for several years, it needs to be right.\u00a0 And remember that subway tile isn&#8217;t the only show in
