Happy New Year, everyone.\u00a0 We are so happy to be back here on the blog with you.\u00a0 We had a little hacking incident that shut us down for a day or so, but that issue has been taken care of, and we are back and ready to get this year started.\u00a0 So much has happened since we wrote our last post in mid-December. (We wrote a bunch of blog posts early so we could enjoy the holidays without working on the blog).\u00a0 Some BIG things have happened since then so be sure to come back tomorrow for an announcement that will probably surprise you.\u00a0 Meanwhile, let’s kick off this new year the way we do the first blog day of every month.\u00a0 We have another revisit for you, and this is a good one loaded with tips on using art in your home that isn’t really art.\u00a0 Mom wrote this one last January after she found a small treasure at a Sunday flea market.\u00a0 Enjoy the repost, and be sure to come back tomorrow.<\/p>\n

For several years I have been looking for a little something to hang over the stove in our kitchen<\/a>.\u00a0 Covering up part of the marble back splash might be silly, but I love the look when magazines, Pinterest, and blogs show art over or near the stove.\u00a0 Even though I have seen things that I thought might work, I never actually made a purchase.\u00a0 My patience paid off because when Josie and I went to the flea market<\/a> near her DC home, I found the perfect thing for the space.\u00a0 It is an old advertisement for Calumet baking powder.\u00a0 One of the things I love most about it is that it isn’t really art, but when I had it framed, it became art.\u00a0 It just goes to prove that art that isn’t art can become art when you want it to.<\/h3>\n

When I saw it, I just knew this old ad would be coming home with me.\u00a0\u00a0 The colors fit in perfectly with our kitchen.\u00a0 Also, the famous Calumet Farm<\/a> is here in Lexington, and it is one of the most well-known horse farms in the world.\u00a0 Its founders had a connection to the same Calumets who sold\/sell baking powder.<\/h3>\n

Calumet Farm is known for its miles of white fences in a day when black fences have become the most common and most practical for horse farms.\u00a0 Also, all of their buildings are white with red trim just like the baking powder can.<\/h3>\n

The little sign had wheels in the back that could be turned to show the ever-changing prices of butter and eggs.\u00a0 I set the numbers on the year we were married.\u00a0 The framer and I decided to emphasize the whites which weren’t really too white anymore.<\/h3>\n

I selected an aged silver frame to blend with our stainless appliances, and the finished product turned out just the way I was hoping it would.\u00a0 I might add a 3M Command strip to attach it to the wall, and I might just let it lean against the wall.\u00a0 I haven’t decided on that yet.<\/h3>\n
