{"id":37562,"date":"2017-12-12T19:00:53","date_gmt":"2017-12-13T00:00:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/?p=37562"},"modified":"2017-12-05T19:29:23","modified_gmt":"2017-12-06T00:29:23","slug":"diy-christmas-pillow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/?p=37562","title":{"rendered":"DIY Christmas Pillow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-37564\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/DIY-Christmas-Pillow-The-2-Seasons-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"DIY Christmas Pillow - The 2 Seasons\" width=\"640\" height=\"960\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/DIY-Christmas-Pillow-The-2-Seasons-683x1024.jpg 683w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/DIY-Christmas-Pillow-The-2-Seasons-215x323.jpg 215w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/DIY-Christmas-Pillow-The-2-Seasons-300x450.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Instead of buying a new Christmas pillow as is my usual M.O., I decided to make one this year.\u00a0 It was such a simple project that took less than 30 minutes.\u00a0 My 91 year-old mother has a wealth of fabrics in her sewing room, and it&#8217;s kind of like shopping when I start looking through her stash.\u00a0 I used <a href=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/2015\/03\/10\/diy-custom-throw-pillows-cheap\/\">this method<\/a> for the basic pillow that I sewed out of painters&#8217; drop cloth.\u00a0 But first I used some green gingham, red and white ticking, and some red calico to construct a stocking applique.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-37565\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/IMG_9896-e1512518741949-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"DIY Christmas Pillow - The 2 Seasons\" width=\"640\" height=\"853\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/IMG_9896-e1512518741949-768x1024.jpg 768w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/IMG_9896-e1512518741949-242x323.jpg 242w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/IMG_9896-e1512518741949-300x400.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0I found a stocking template in an old <em>Southern Living<\/em> Christmas book from the 1990&#8217;s.\u00a0 My mother has all of the SL Christmas books.\u00a0 Then I used it to trace out a stocking on the ticking fabric, and I cut it out.\u00a0 Then I cut out a a rectangle in the green gingham to fit the top of the ticking and sewed it on.\u00a0 I did these steps first so the stocking would be completely made before attaching it to the pillow top.\u00a0 I wanted the top of the stocking to be open so things like candy canes and small toys can be put in it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-37567\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/IMG_9898-e1512518988775-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"DIY Christmas Pillow - The 2 Seasons\" width=\"850\" height=\"638\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/IMG_9898-e1512518988775-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/IMG_9898-e1512518988775-430x323.jpg 430w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/IMG_9898-e1512518988775-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once the stocking was constructed, I attached it to the pillow top with a zig-zag stitch.\u00a0 The final step was to cut out a small rectangle using some red calico fabric.\u00a0 I sewed up the edges with the right sides together.\u00a0 Then I pulled it through so it would be the right side of the fabric.\u00a0 I gathered it in the middle and tied it with some string and then sewed it onto the stocking.
