Over the years I have owned and loved some favorite pieces of wicker.\u00a0 Most of the wicker that I have owned have been vintage pieces purchased at estate sales and auctions, but I have also bought some new pieces.\u00a0 Wicker probably doesn’t get the love and respect it deserves.\u00a0 We came up with seven really good reasons to own some wicker.\u00a0 If you haven’t thought much about it, maybe one of these tips will give you a reason to love it, too.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\"Back<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

IT IS VERSATILE<\/strong> – Wicker is so versatile.\u00a0 It is as much at home in formal living room as it is in a beach side cottage.\u00a0 It can be used on a front or back porch<\/a>, in a garden, in a sun room<\/a>, in a bedroom, beside a fireplace, or in a green house.<\/p>\n

\"Porch<\/p>\n

IT IS LIGHT WEIGHT<\/strong> – One of the things I love about wicker is that it is so light weight.\u00a0 It you want to move it from one room to another, it doesn’t require a moving crew.\u00a0 You can just lift it up and carry it where you want it to go.\u00a0 I have moved my wicker chairs all over the house, and even up and down the stairs without any help.\u00a0 That’s always a plus in my book.<\/p>\n

\"New<\/p>\n

IT IS EASY TO CLEAN<\/strong> – Wicker is so easy to clean.\u00a0 Once or twice a year I take our wicker furniture to the courtyard and spray it down with a water hose.\u00a0 Then I leave it outside to dry thoroughly.\u00a0 The rest of the time I just use the vacuum and the soft brush attachment to remove any dust that has collected on it.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\"Painting<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

IT EASILY CAN BE PAINTED<\/strong> – The look of a piece of wicker can easily be changed with a can of spray paint.\u00a0 Using spray paint is so much faster than using a brush and a can of paint.\u00a0 My wicker furniture has been several colors, but right now most of it is neutral other than the blue wicker rocker.\u00a0 With just two cans of navy blue spray paint and less than 30 minutes of time, the above wicker rocker went from green…..<\/p>\n

CHANGE THE LOOK WITH FABRIC OR CUSHIONS<\/strong> – The look of wicker can easily be changed with cushions or fabric.\u00a0 For instance, the cushions on the wicker sofa in our sun room are upholstered in red and white ticking.<\/p>\n

At Christmas time I cover it with a piece of plaid flannel fabric<\/a> to give it a winter vibe.<\/p>\n

\"New<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This past spring I decided to change the look by covering the cushions with chambray fabric.\u00a0 Individual cushions that are available at big box stores would work perfectly on any of the wicker chairs that I own, but I usually just switch up the look by using different throw pillows.<\/p>\n

IT COMES IN ALL FORMS<\/strong> – Wicker adds warmth, texture, and character to a room.\u00a0 Maybe that’s why we all love baskets so much.\u00a0 You don’t have to stop there, though.\u00a0 There are wicker trays, wicker bed trays, wicker lamps, wicker dressers, wicker beds, trunks, and more.\u00a0 This small wicker dresser in Little Miss’s room fits nicely in a corner and provides a place for her lamp and extra storage.<\/p>\n

\"Porch<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

IT IS VERY DURABLE <\/strong> – Wicker will last for years and years.\u00a0 The wicker sofa in our sun room is over 100 years old.\u00a0 The dresser in Little Miss’s room (above) was in Jordan’s room when she was a little girl.\u00a0 Wicker steamer trunks are still being used in home decor today.\u00a0 That’s one of the reasons Jordan bought wicker for their back porch.\u00a0 She knew it will last many, many years.<\/p>\n
