{"id":35265,"date":"2017-06-04T18:00:35","date_gmt":"2017-06-04T23:00:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/?p=35265"},"modified":"2017-06-05T05:34:03","modified_gmt":"2017-06-05T10:34:03","slug":"my-five-pantry-essentials","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/?p=35265","title":{"rendered":"My Five Pantry Essentials"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In every house we have owned, I have always had a big walk-in pantry.\u00a0 I realize this feature in a home is a true luxury, and I have never taken them for granted.\u00a0 Jordan has owned two houses, and she has had to create pantries in both places.\u00a0 In her Syracuse house, she and Yankee turned a former coat closet into a pantry.\u00a0 They stacked their washer and dryer in their current house to <a href=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/2016\/03\/08\/adding-a-pantry-to-a-laundry-room\/\">create a pantry<\/a> in their laundry closet.\u00a0 No matter how big or how small it is, a pantry has to work for the family who is using it.\u00a0 Some people want every shelf labeled, some people have beautiful baskets for their items, and some people have their foods in matching see-through containers.\u00a0 The pantry in our house also doubles as my office, but for this post I am addressing the pantry portion of the room.\u00a0 I have five essentials that make our pantry work for me, and I thought you might like to know what they are.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-35287\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMG_4301-e1494603403770-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Pantry essentials - The 2 Seasons\" width=\"640\" height=\"960\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMG_4301-e1494603403770-683x1024.jpg 683w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMG_4301-e1494603403770-215x323.jpg 215w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMG_4301-e1494603403770-300x450.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>1.\u00a0 Peg board<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0 I am no Julia Child, but the wonderful pegboard she had in her kitchen was my inspiration to put one in our pantry.\u00a0 There was a huge blank wall just begging to be put to work.\u00a0 The pegboard holds all of my pots, pans, and lids along with some copper pans, colanders, and a bundt pan.\u00a0 There&#8217;s also a spot for a cooling rack and some grilling utensils.\u00a0 I use our peg board several times a day.\u00a0 If you have an empty spot anywhere to install a pegboard in your pantry or kitchen, I guarantee you would love having it.\u00a0 You could even fit a pegboard on the inside of a cabinet door to hang measuring cups and spoons.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-35288\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMG_4304-e1494603423124-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Pantry essentials - The 2 Seasons\" width=\"640\" height=\"960\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMG_4304-e1494603423124-683x1024.jpg 683w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMG_4304-e1494603423124-215x323.jpg 215w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMG_4304-e1494603423124-300x450.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.\u00a0 Plastic bag storage<\/strong> &#8211; I often forget to take my <a href=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/2014\/02\/20\/are-your-shopping-bags-clean\/\">reusable shopping bag<\/a>s with me when I am grocery shopping which means I often have a stash of plastic bags.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t throw them away because it seems there&#8217;s always a way to reuse them.\u00a0 After seeing one in Jordan&#8217;s pantry, I bought a little plastic storage container at Ikea.\u00a0 It was just a few dollars and has come in so handy.\u00a0 I just hang it on two hooks on the pegboard and fill it with bags.\u00a0 They are no longer stuffed into a drawer or cabinet.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-35284\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMG_4297-e1494603320775-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Pantry essentials - The 2 Seasons\" width=\"640\" height=\"960\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMG_4297-e1494603320775-683x1024.jpg 683w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMG_4297-e1494603320775-215x323.jpg 215w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMG_4297-e1494603320775-300x450.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.\u00a0 Sink<\/strong> &#8211; I know this is a pure luxury, but I have a small sink in our pantry.\u00a0 When we remodeled our townhouse before moving in, we replaced the sink in the <a href=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/2016\/03\/13\/le-bar\/\">wet bar area<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0 That meant there was a small stainless steel sink that was about to be donated to the Restore.\u00a0 I talked to our plumber, and he was able to do the work to make a pantry sink possible.\u00a0 I use the pantry counter as my bake station, and that sink has come in so handy when I have needed water for a recipe or when I need to wash a utensil or my hands.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-35286\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMG_4299-e1494603382734-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"PAntry essentials - The 2 Seasons\" width=\"640\" height=\"960\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMG_4299-e1494603382734-683x1024.jpg 683w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMG_4299-e1494603382734-215x323.jpg 215w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMG_4299-e1494603382734-300x450.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>4.\u00a0 Microwave<\/strong> &#8211; Since our <a href=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/2017\/01\/08\/a-tour-of-my-kitchen-2\/\">kitchen<\/a> is on the small side, I didn&#8217;t want to give up valuable cabinet space for a built-in microwave.\u00a0 I also didn&#8217;t want to sacrifice any of the counter space in the kitchen.\u00a0 So, we have our microwave sitting on a stand in the pantry.\u00a0 When we remodeled, we left a corner of the pantry blank so that we could install a stacking washer and dryer there if ever necessary.\u00a0 Our <a href=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/2017\/02\/12\/update-in-the-laundry-room\/\">laundry room<\/a> is upstairs, but if we ever decide to convert the main floor bedroom to our master bedroom, we won&#8217;t have to go upstairs to do the laundry.\u00a0 Meanwhile, the empty corner holds open shelves, storage baskets, and our microwave.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-35285\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMG_4298-e1494603354672-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Pantry essentials - The 2 Seasons\" width=\"640\" height=\"960\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMG_4298-e1494603354672-683x1024.jpg 683w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMG_4298-e1494603354672-215x323.jpg 215w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMG_4298-e1494603354672-300x450.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>5.\u00a0 Open shelves<\/strong> &#8211;
