I never had the opportunity to know my paternal grandmother. \u00a0She died a few years before I was born, but I was named after her.<\/h3>\n

I was lucky enough to receive a special item that belonged to her – her school slate. \u00a0For those of you too young to know this, children used to have their very own slates to use instead of paper and pencil.<\/h3>\n

When we moved, I wanted to hang Grandmother’s slate in a special place.<\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

We had a blank wall over our peninsula. \u00a0We decided to hang our antique telephone and the slate there.<\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I thought it would be fun to put my grocery list – in French – on the slate. \u00a0It is a great conversation starter. \u00a0If you notice, even the piece of jute string is old.<\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The nice thing about this twosome is that the old telephone was from my maternal grandfather. \u00a0He was an antique dealer. \u00a0I purchased the phone from him because he had eight grandchildren and didn’t want to give something to one if he couldn’t do the same thing for all. \u00a0That was fine with me.<\/h3>\n

Looking at this cumbersome anachronism sure does let us know how far we have come.<\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

So, all I have to say is, “Call me.”<\/h3>\n
