Our son and daughter-in-law have lived in Washington, DC two years now, and it has been so much fun to see the house they bought become a home.\u00a0 It had been completely remodeled when they moved in, so they were able to concentrate on design and decor rather than taking on a construction project.\u00a0 Their home once had a lot of walls, but they were removed during the remodeling process making the first floor a truly open concept.\u00a0 Josie worked with Anna Kahoe who owns the store Good Wood in DC, and now they have an inviting dining room that you get to tour today.<\/h3>\n

They like a collected look that swings toward traditional with some modern touches thrown in.\u00a0 Although the dining room is still in need of some art and a rug, I thought you would enjoy seeing how it is today.\u00a0 The room wasn’t staged.\u00a0 This is the way it looks every day.<\/h3>\n

The dining table, which came from GoodWood<\/a>, floats in the middle of the floor and is anchored by a wonderful pendant light from West Elm<\/a>.<\/h3>\n

The leather chairs were a Craig’s list find, and the other two chairs along with their mates were from a local estate sale.<\/h3>\n

My favorite feature in the room is the dresser that they turned into a bar.\u00a0 A while back they had a similar dresser and gave it to Jordan for her dining room<\/a>.\u00a0 Then I suggested to Josie that the corner would make a great area for a bar.\u00a0 She ran with the suggestion and found the same style buffet at a Salvation Army and had it painted.\u00a0 She wants to take down the shine on the pulls.<\/h3>\n

I love the way she accessorized the top when it isn’t being used.\u00a0 She is good at mixing high and low and old and new.<\/h3>\n

She always has a huge bouquet of flowers in this vase<\/a>.\u00a0 These came from Whole Market.\u00a0 I haven’t purchased flowers from Whole Market, but now I am thinking that I need to.<\/h3>\n

It’s a great mixture of things she has found at shops and on line.\u00a0 The room’s show stopper is the Anthropologie mirror<\/a>.\u00a0 And I would love for you to be able smell that French tulip candle<\/a>.\u00a0 It is divine.<\/h3>\n

Another of my favorite items is the old door that she uses to hide the refrigerator.\u00a0 It is also a Craig’s list find.<\/h3>\n

It was much taller, and she had it cut down to match their nine-feet ceilings.<\/h3>\n

An old leather sofa sits under the window, and I love that it is loaded with character.\u00a0 I bet it has some stories to tell.<\/h3>\n

The throw, also from Good Wood, hides a few imperfections that give it even more personality.<\/h3>\n

Wasn’t that fun?\u00a0 I love the way you can mix this and that and come up a winner, and I think Josie has done just that.<\/h3>\n
