{"id":32242,"date":"2016-08-22T18:00:23","date_gmt":"2016-08-22T23:00:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/?p=32242"},"modified":"2016-08-22T17:18:27","modified_gmt":"2016-08-22T22:18:27","slug":"freshen-up-outdoor-spaces-for-late-summer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/?p=32242","title":{"rendered":"Freshen Up Outdoor Spaces for Late Summer"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Although it is tempting to get a head start on fall, we are holding on to summer as long as we can.\u00a0 That being said, it&#8217;s that time of year when our outdoor flowers are drooping, our outdoor fabrics are fading, and much of our outdoor decor isn&#8217;t as crisp and clean as we want it to be.\u00a0 I took a look at our back courtyard and front porch area and decided that it&#8217;s time to freshen up the outdoor spaces for late summer.\u00a0 They can use some TLC until we convert to fall in a few weeks.\u00a0 I came up with five easy ways to tide things over until we take the plunge into fall.\u00a0 These are easy things you can do to put a fresh stamp on our place, too.<\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-32247\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_3046-698x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Five Tips to Help Freshen Up Your Outdoor Spaces - The 2 Seasons\" width=\"640\" height=\"939\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_3046-698x1024.jpg 698w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_3046-220x323.jpg 220w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_3046-300x440.jpg 300w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_3046.jpg 1551w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>1.\u00a0 Change out your patio umbrella.\u00a0<\/strong> <\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3>I had a wonderful cream colored canvas umbrella that we used over our outdoor table.\u00a0 It certainly kept the sun off of us when we ate al fresco, but after two years of use, it started to mildew.\u00a0 While shopping at a Ballard&#8217;s Design outlet a few weeks ago, Jordan and I discovered that their<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ballarddesigns.com\/9-27-auto-tilt-umbrella\/198159\" target=\"_blank\"> outdoor umbrellas<\/a> were reduced drastically &#8211; as in 80 per cent off.\u00a0 They had some with navy and white stripes, and they were the same size as our existing umbrella.\u00a0 You all know that I am all about navy and all about stripes, so I grabbed one.\u00a0 All I had to do was remove our old umbrella cover and add the new one.\u00a0 All of a sudden, I had a fresh look for our eating area.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-31234\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/IMG_2655-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"Ralph Lauren look in the courtyard - The 2 Seasons\" width=\"700\" height=\"466\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/IMG_2655-1024x682.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/IMG_2655-430x286.jpg 430w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/IMG_2655-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><em><strong>2.\u00a0 Freshen up your outdoor pillows.<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>I made some <a href=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/2016\/05\/09\/the-courtyard-gets-an-update\/\">new pillows<\/a> for our courtyard last spring, and they are still perfect.\u00a0 I have been mindful to keep them out of the sun and bad weather when we aren&#8217;t using our courtyard.\u00a0 However, if your pillows are looking like the last rose of summer, there are tons of sales going on right now.\u00a0 We bet you can find some good-looking pillows for fractions of their original price.\u00a0 Then in the fall you can pull out your plaids, wools, and <a href=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/2015\/09\/20\/new-pillow-from-old-sport-coat-in-the-sunroom\/\">sports coat pillows<\/a>, and maybe layer them with your new purchases.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\">\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-31854\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/IMG_2908-682x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Courtyard in summer\" width=\"640\" height=\"961\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/IMG_2908-682x1024.jpg 682w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/IMG_2908-215x323.jpg 215w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/IMG_2908-300x451.jpg 300w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/IMG_2908.jpg 1950w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><em><strong>3.\u00a0 Pull those weeds and add some mulch.<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>The easiest way to freshen up your outdoor plants is to make sure the weeds have been pulled, the dead flowers have been removed, the limbs that have gone rogue have been clipped, and the mulch is still in place.\u00a0 We have two pyracantha bushes in our courtyard, and they are trained to grow on frames.\u00a0 We want to maintain the original shape, and so clipping them on a regular basis keeps them under control.\u00a0 I love to dead-head my flowering plants.\u00a0 I simply use a pair of garden clippers to cut off the old blooms.\u00a0 This also encourages more buds and blooms to form, and at they same time, the old plants look healthier and more controlled.\u00a0 Also, if your window boxes have seen a better day, it&#8217;s okay to just remove the old plants, and add some filler plants like small boxwoods.\u00a0 Then you can tuck in some colorful gourds, mini pumpkins, mums, or pansies later for fall.\u00a0 As far as mulch goes, just raking it will often fluff it up and make it look fresh again.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-22034\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Pin-2.jpg\" alt=\"Windows - The 2 Seasons\" width=\"640\" height=\"483\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><em><strong>4.\u00a0 Clean your windows.\u00a0<\/strong> <\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Take a look at your windows.\u00a0 Are you seeing spider webs, black spots from insect do-do, or dust?\u00a0 Maybe it&#8217;s time to get out the vinegar and water and give them a good cleaning.\u00a0 You will be amazed at how much brighter your interior spaces are when the outside windows are clean.\u00a0 And while you are at it, give the inside surface of your windows a good washing, too.\u00a0 And don&#8217;t forget your front door.\u00a0 Clean off the finger prints and smudges that have collected there.\u00a0 It&#8217;s the first thing people entering your house will see, and a clean entrance is an easy way to make a good first impression.<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\"><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center\">\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-26503\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/IMG_1170-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"London porch -
