Jordan and I love to tell you all what we’ve been reading<\/a>, and we decided it was time to give you another list.\u00a0 When she informed me that she has only been reading adoption books lately, that was my cue to do this one on my own.\u00a0 So, friends, this is what I have read lately.\u00a0 The list might seem short, but it takes me forever to get through a book these days.\u00a0 I only read at night, and it seems I’m falling asleep on about the third page.\u00a0 Does that happen to you?\u00a0 All I know is that I have only taken one sleeping pill in my life, and as long as I read at bed time, there will never be a need for a second one.\u00a0 If you have any good recommendations, please tell us in the comments.\u00a0 I keep an ongoing list of recommended books, and that’s how I choose what I’ll read next.<\/h3>\n

I just finished Killing Jesus <\/a><\/span>and enjoyed it as much as Killing Kennedy<\/a><\/span> and Killing Reagan<\/a><\/span>.<\/h3>\n

Then I jumped right into the Wright Brothers<\/a><\/span>.\u00a0 I’m working on it right now.<\/h3>\n

My son said Long Walk to Freedom<\/a><\/span> was one of the best books he has ever read, and he is a big reader.\u00a0 I read it while we were in Africa.\u00a0 We have visited the prison where Nelson Mandela was kept, and the book brought it all back and more.<\/h3>\n

I totally loved Delicious<\/a>, which is about a girl who travels from her home in California to work for a food magazine.\u00a0 The story behind the story was outstanding, and I love how author Ruth Reichl tied it all together.<\/h3>\n

Little Paris Bookshop<\/a><\/span> is perfect for all of you Francophiles out there.\u00a0 It’s about a bookshop that is located on one of the boats in the Seine River in Paris.\u00a0 One day the owner unties the rope, and along with a friend, he goes on an adventure to clear his heart and his head.\u00a0 It took place in some of the areas and towns where we have bicycled in France.<\/h3>\n

The Pursuit of Love<\/a><\/span> is written by Nancy Mitford.\u00a0 One of her sisters was the Duchess of Devonshire who lived at the Chatsworth estate<\/a> that we visited last fall.\u00a0 Even though the book was fiction, sometimes, I felt it wasn’t.\u00a0 I think she pulled from real life experiences as do many authors.\u00a0 This book was recommended by my friend Charlotte who is\/was British.<\/h3>\n

I don’t know about you, but when I look at Christie Brinkley, I wonder how she does it.\u00a0 That being said, I had to read her book, Timeless Beauty<\/a><\/span>.\u00a0 It’s probably no surprise that it was an easy read. I learned a thing or two.<\/h3>\n

I enjoyed Devil in the White City<\/a><\/span> because it provided some great background information on the making of the Chicago World’s Fair and tells the story of a serial killer who was on the move in Windy City at the same time.\u00a0 Plus, I learned why they call it the Windy City.\u00a0 It’s not the obvious reason.<\/h3>\n

One of my favorite reads in this bunch was The Boys in the Boat<\/a><\/span>.\u00a0 It tells the story of a team of ordinary college boys who competed in the 1932 Olympics in Germany.<\/h3>\n

I have read Eddie Ross’s book, Modern Mix<\/a>, twice, and I’m thinking about reading it again.\u00a0 I love his style.<\/h3>\n

And to finish it up, this one<\/a> is on my wish list.\u00a0 I dropped a big hint for Mother’s Day.<\/h3>\n

And by the way, I read most books on my Kindle Paperwhite<\/a>.\u00a0 These days it seems the only actual real books I buy are the decorating books.\u00a0 I still like to hold a book when I read, but the Kindle paperwhite means I can read in bed and not disturb Mr. Right.\u00a0 That makes all the difference.<\/h3>\n

As you can see, these books are all over the map.\u00a0 Since I’m not the scholarly type, most of them are for pure entertainment.\u00a0 And\u00a0 you’ll notice there’s only one thriller.\u00a0 It’s not that I don’t like a good suspense read, it’s just that I like fluff more.<\/h3>\n
