{"id":30490,"date":"2016-04-07T18:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-04-07T23:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/?p=30490"},"modified":"2016-10-24T19:38:43","modified_gmt":"2016-10-25T00:38:43","slug":"slow-cooker-chocolate-cake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/?p=30490","title":{"rendered":"Slow Cooker Chocolate Cake"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>It just doesn&#8217;t seem possible to make chocolate cake in a slow cooker.\u00a0 Aren&#8217;t cakes supposed to be baked in the oven?\u00a0 That&#8217;s what I thought when I saw a recipe for slow cooker chocolate cake in an Allrecipes.com magazine.\u00a0 It sparked my interest enough that I just had to give it a try.\u00a0 Mr. Right and I love to go to a Sunday matinee, so, on a recent Sunday I tossed all of the ingredients into the slow cooker, turned it on low, and off we went.\u00a0 When we came home a few hours later, the whole house smelled like wonderful chocolate.\u00a0 You know what I&#8217;m talking about, right???\u00a0 The cake still had about 30 minutes to &#8220;bake&#8221;, but I was so excited to see how it would turn out.\u00a0 Would it feel like chocolate cake?\u00a0 Would it taste like chocolate cake?\u00a0 Would it look like chocolate cake.\u00a0 I&#8217;m happy to report that the answers to those questions are yes, yes, and yes!\u00a0 The cake was almost pudding-like and we ate our first warm piece with a big ole scoop of vanilla ice cream.\u00a0 Yummmmm.\u00a0 That, folks, is chocolate perfection.\u00a0 Be sure to give this one a try.<\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-30536\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Chocolate-Cake-682x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Slow Cooker Chocolate Cake\" width=\"640\" height=\"961\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Chocolate-Cake-682x1024.jpg 682w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Chocolate-Cake-215x323.jpg 215w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Chocolate-Cake-300x451.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><strong>SLOW-COOKER CHOCOLATE CAKE<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>(source &#8211; Allrecipes.com magazine)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Cooking spray<\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>2 cups sugar<\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>1 3\/4 cups all-purpose flower<\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>3\/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (we use <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B00GXT7NJ8\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=B00GXT7NJ8&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=the2sea-20&amp;linkId=GIBEJEEQHGA5OU6L\">this brand<\/a>)<\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>1 1\/2 teaspoons baking soda<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>1 1\/2 teaspoons baking powder<\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>1 teaspoon salt<\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>2 large eggs<\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>1 cup milk<\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>1\/2 cup vegetable oil<\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>2 teaspoons vanilla extract (recipe <a href=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/2012\/05\/22\/i-made-vanilla-extract\/\">here<\/a> to make your own)<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>1 cup boiling water<\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>\u00a0&#8211; Coat insert of a 5 &#8211; 6 quart slow cooker with cooking spray<\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>\u00a0&#8211; Whisk together sugar, flour, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.\u00a0 Whisk together eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla in another bowl until well combined.\u00a0 Whisk in boiling water.\u00a0 Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and mix well.\u00a0 Pour batter into prepared slow cooker.<\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>\u00a0&#8211; Cook, covered on low until a wooden skewer inserted into center comes out clean and cake has begun to pull away from sides of insert, 3 to 3 3\/4 hours.\u00a0 (Mine was ready in 3 hours.\u00a0 Do not overcook.)
