Janette here…..Jordan doesn’t know it, but I high-jacked her blog post to let you all know that today is her birthday.\u00a0 As we await the arrival of “Little Miss”, I wanted to share a picture of Jordan at about the same age.\u00a0 I would like to wish a Happy Birthday to my partner in crime and my little miss.<\/h3>\n

Hi everyone.\u00a0 I think it is about time that I do another new house post for you.\u00a0 We have been busy with the holidays and travel for work and pleasure.\u00a0 Since we moved in and I gave you a little pre-decorated tour<\/a> of our house, I have spent most of my house energy on unpacking (finished), organizing (half-way finished) and painting (80 per cent finished).\u00a0 With the arrival of “Little Miss” getting closer and closer, we are trying to get as much done around here as possible.<\/h3>\n

I was so excited to have a dining room in our new house. It just seems so southern to me to have a separate dining room. I know it is a room that doesn’t get used in a lot of homes, but since our only eat in part of our kitchen is our breakfast bar, we actually eat our dinners in the dining room.\u00a0 (We ate all of our meals in the dining room of our last house, too.)\u00a0 My first reaction was to go very formal, but I’m not going over the top.<\/h3>\n

The first thing we did was paint all the trim and walls. \u00a0I LOVE the wall color which is Cotton Grey by Behr. \u00a0When my mom saw it in person, she liked it so much she painted some areas in her place the same color. \u00a0 You can see we are using pretty much the same furniture from our last dining room.<\/h3>\n

While I really loved the DINE\u00a0<\/a>sign in our last house, it is not working in our new place. \u00a0My main art is going to be these silver platters. \u00a0I used some on a small wall in Syracuse and liked the look so much that I’m going bigger with them here. \u00a0 I have been collecting them as I find them in antique and thrift stores. \u00a0I want to eventually fill the wall.\u00a0 I was excited to see that the HGTV design house has silver trays above a bed.<\/h3>\n

\u00a0I have been asked how I hang them, and it so easy when I use these<\/a>. \u00a0They work great, and if I ever need a platter for a dinner party, it is an easy task to take one down. Oh, and here you can see our new custom plantation shutters that were just\u00a0 installed.\u00a0 Since we plan to be here a long, long, long time, we felt the investment was worth it.\u00a0 I am drooling I love them so much.\u00a0 However, because we made that big purchase, we have to save up now for more\/new furniture for other parts of the house.<\/h3>\n

This hutch, which was one of our first blog projects ever, will eventually be replaced with a buffet\/dresser from my brother and sister-in-law. \u00a0I just need to make the trip to DC to pick it up. \u00a0This hutch has served me well, but it did get a little damaged in the move.<\/h3>\n

Once the buffet arrives, I plan to hang a big mirror over it and put two colorful lamps on both ends.\u00a0 These are the ones I am crushing over right now.<\/h3>\n

Another thing I plan to change sooner rather than later in the room is the light fixture. \u00a0While I wish my chandelier that I won on the Price is Right<\/em> would have worked, it just didn’t.<\/h3>\n

<\/h3>\n

We have a Cost Plus World Market here, and I love that store.\u00a0 They carry this great light, and I am just waiting for it to get back in stock. \u00a0They do have a medium\u00a0one,<\/a> but I need to hold out for \u00a0the larger size.<\/h3>\n

Our dining room table has been with us through thick and thin, and I have restained and painted<\/a>. \u00a0Our chairs however are on their last leg. \u00a0I love this style, but can’t make up my mind on which color I like best.\u00a0 Any thoughts?<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

Well, that is where I am for now. \u00a0My parents have an oriental rug that they are trying to give to me.\u00a0 It was an investment piece for them, and they would like for it to be used rather than rolled up in their basement.\u00a0 I go back and forth on if I want to take on the commitment of an oriental rug, but at this point I am leaning towards yes.\u00a0 As soon as we have our buffet, mirror, lamps, and ceiling light, I will be sure to give you another update.\u00a0 I hope you enjoy this house journey I am on.<\/h3>\n
