Are your pumpkins and gourds looking as if they are past their prime?\u00a0 Mine sure were, yet I still wanted to decorate my cornucopia (you can find one here<\/a>) for Thanksgiving.\u00a0 I knew there was no way I could use those once luscious gourds\u00a0 that were now showing some age spots and didn’t smell as fresh as they did six weeks ago.\u00a0 So, I decided to go the alternative route and just gathered up items from around the house that resembled the colors and textures of fall.<\/h3>\n

I pulled out some brown packing material left over from a wine gift we received last Christmas along with some corks, antlers, feathers, and faux leaves.\u00a0 For an unexpected items I tossed in a long strand of pearls.<\/h3>\n

I didn’t take much time to arrange everything because I wasn’t going for a formal look.<\/h3>\n

Since the foyer is the best place for us to have a seasonal display, I put it on the marble-topped stand in there and added a very old lamp that once belonged to my mother.\u00a0 Its colors and burlap shade definitely work with the other textures.\u00a0 Some green books give it much needed height.<\/h3>\n

I kept the Monet post card in the silver frame that has been in the foyer all fall.\u00a0 Its sparkle and shine offset browns and rusts.<\/h3>\n

If you have a cornucopia but you aren’t sure how to fill it, just shop your house (and yard), and I bet you will find plenty of items for a great Thanksgiving display.<\/h3>\n
