When my 87-year-old mother visited me this summer, we went to the local fabric shop where I have bought some great remnants to use on DIY pillows.\u00a0 (I wrote about that here<\/a>.)\u00a0 Although they aren’t traditional fall colors, I found two fabrics that made some some nice pillows for a fall look on the great room sofa.<\/h3>\n

If you’ve been around here a while, then you know I like to decorate with blues, greens, golds, and reds.\u00a0 I broke that rule this time though and brought in some brown for fall.\u00a0 You also know that one way I like to change up the look of a room is by switching out the pillows.\u00a0 I did it here<\/a> last week in our sunroom.<\/h3>\n

To add to the mix, I also bought two nice navy pillows to act as the anchors for the other pillows.\u00a0 I selected the brown and cream fabric remnant because it has big leaves on it – as in big brown fall leaves.<\/h3>\n

I borrowed this pillow from the new chair in our master bedroom that I tweaked a month or so ago.<\/h3>\n

I might love it even more on the sofa.<\/h3>\n

This remnant was great because it had this great detailing that I was able to center on the pillow.\u00a0 It adds dimension and texture.\u00a0 All of these remnants were 50 cents each, and I am still using my original painters drop cloth for the backing.\u00a0 Those two details make changing the pillows frequently such an easy thing to do.<\/h3>\n

This is another reason why I like having a neutral sofa on a neutral rug in a room with neutral paint.\u00a0 It is easy to add that punch of color.<\/h3>\n
