{"id":25846,"date":"2015-01-20T18:45:17","date_gmt":"2015-01-20T23:45:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/?p=25846"},"modified":"2015-01-20T16:43:36","modified_gmt":"2015-01-20T21:43:36","slug":"diy-stove-cover","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/?p=25846","title":{"rendered":"DIY Stove Cover"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>We are slowly working on changing out the appliances in our house, but since it still works just fine, the cook top will be the last appliance to go. \u00a0I have never been a fan of our cook top because it is so hard to clean. \u00a0I have even had Grandma, the clean queen, try to work her magic the last time she was here. \u00a0Grandma was even frustrated with the impossible task of cleaning the top. \u00a0I have tried many of the tips and tricks from Pinterest, and nothing has really worked.\u00a0 So, I decided to take matters into my own hands and build a cover that would both cover the top and provide more counter space for me.<\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-25857\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_8603-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"DIY Cook Top\" width=\"456\" height=\"304\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_8603-1024x682.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_8603-430x286.jpg 430w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_8603-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 456px) 100vw, 456px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>The cover is not only the perfect solution, but it also provides extra counter space.\u00a0 For instance, when we entertain, it becomes a great bar area.\u00a0 Our guests, like everyone else&#8217;s, always end up in the kitchen anyway, so, why not put the bar there???<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-7876\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Kitchen-931x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Kitchen after\" width=\"557\" height=\"612\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Kitchen-931x1024.jpg 931w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Kitchen-293x323.jpg 293w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 557px) 100vw, 557px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>The new cover is easy to remove when it&#8217;s time to cook a meal.\u00a0 Now I only have to look at the cook top when I am actually using it.\u00a0 My friend <a title=\"Amanda\u2019s House Tour\" href=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/2014\/11\/03\/amandas-house-tour\/\">Amanda<\/a> hired someone to make a top for her, but I decided it was probably a project that I could easily DIY with my husband&#8217;s woodworking tools.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-25847\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_8400-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"DIY Stove Cover\" width=\"704\" height=\"469\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_8400-1024x682.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_8400-430x286.jpg 430w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_8400-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 704px) 100vw, 704px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>The first thing I did was measure the cook top. \u00a0I then went to the Home Depot and picked out some pine for the project. \u00a0I had them cut the top and sides to the size I needed. \u00a0It is so nice that they will make the cuts for you. \u00a0This step saves a lot of time.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-25848\" src=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_8401-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"DIY Stove Cove\" width=\"704\" height=\"469\" srcset=\"http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_8401-1024x682.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_8401-430x286.jpg 430w, http:\/\/the2seasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/IMG_8401-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 704px) 100vw, 704px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>I bought these little L brackets to aid in attaching the sides. \u00a0I did this at each corner. After this step for all four corners, I added the top section.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-25850\" tad more.\u00a0 Yankee used our nail gun to add some more nails. \u00a0 You could do this the old fashion way with a hammer, but be careful so you won&#8217;t dent the wood.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-25851\" wood filler and filled them so they wouldn&#8217;t be obvious. \u00a0I sanded them before the staining process.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B00CNUSU6Q\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=B00CNUSU6Q&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=the2sea-20&amp;linkId=JI6HA5VMLKCKZBHK\">stain cloths<\/a> at Haven, and I hadn&#8217;t used mine yet.\u00a0\u00a0 This was the perfect project for them.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" case water or anything else gets on it.\u00a0 This <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B000VZLF58\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=B000VZLF58&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=the2sea-20&amp;linkId=EBAEW2UPS5JLSGNX\">polyurethane<\/a> did the trick. \u00a0I did a couple of applications, and it not only protects but it also gives a nice feel to the cover. \u00a0Be sure to sand between rounds.<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-25856\"
